RICHMOND, Va. (May 3, 2023) – The conference’s regular season champion Delaware headlined the CAA Men’s Lacrosse postseason honors, taking home three of four major awards as voted on by the league’s eight head coaches.

Delaware redshirt senior attackman Tye Kurtz was named CAA Offensive Player of the Year, and his teammate, redshirt senior defender Owen Grant, received CAA Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Fairfield freshman midfielder Will Consoli was tabbed as the CAA Rookie of the Year, while Blue Hens head coach Ben DeLuca was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year by his peers.

Kurtz culminated an impressive career with a terrific season. The redshirt senior set single-season career highs in points and assists (24), while leading the CAA in points per contest (5.00) and ranking second in goals per game (3.29). The Puslinch, Ontario native scored at least two points in every game this season, including five or more in nine games. Kurtz ranks fifth in the NCAA with 70 points and sixth nationally with 46 goals. In addition, Kurtz became the conference's all-time leader for career points (264) and goals (168) earlier this spring.

Grant finishes his career by making league history, becoming the first-ever three-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year. The senior defender was fifth in the NCAA with 32 caused turnovers and 2.29 caused turnovers per game. Grant recorded at least one caused turnover in 12 of 14 games this season, including three or more seven times. The Newmarket, Ontario native added 41 ground balls to rank second on his team while adding seven points on six goals and one assist.

Consoli is the second straight CAA Rookie of the Year from Fairfield and fourth in program history. The freshman totaled 31 points on 24 goals and seven assists during his first collegiate season, adding 12 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Consoli scored a goal in every game this season, including six multi-goal efforts, with a season-best four on two occasions.

DeLuca earns the first CAA Coach of the Year honor during his tenure, joining former Blue Hens head coach Bob Shillinglaw, who won the award twice. DeLuca led Delaware to its third straight CAA regular-season title by going 6-1 in league play with a +51 goal-differential against CAA opponents. The Blue Hens led the league in goals per game (14.64) and goals-against average (9.29) while ranking 10th in the NCAA in scoring offense and fourth nationally in scoring defense.

The All-CAA First Team consists of Kurtz, his teammate, junior JP Ward, and Stony Brook senior Dylan Pallonetti at attack. Towson graduate Kyle Berkeley, Drexel senior Jack Mulcahy, along with Stony Brook teammates, graduate Matt Anderson, and junior Noah Armitage make up the midfield. Monmouth senior Matt Soutar was tabbed at the face-off X. Grant was joined on defense by Towson junior Colby Barsz, Stony Brook senior Christian Lowd and Hofstra graduate Danny Ochs, with Delaware graduate Matt Kilkeary rounding out the First Team All-CAA between the pipes.
