CAA Women’s Basketball Plays 4 Kay During the Month of February
Hunter Peters
RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 2, 2024) – For the fifth season in a row, CAA Women's Basketball, as a conference, will participate in the Play4Kay movement to raise money in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Play4Kay is an initiative aimed at bringing communities together to honor cancer warriors in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women by uniting players, coaches, officials, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition.
All 14 CAA teams have designated one home game as their Play4Kay contest. During that game, each institution will raise money to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and celebrate female cancer survivors.
Former NC State head coach Kay Yow, who spent four seasons as head coach at CAA member Elon, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 before losing her battle with the disease in 2009. Coach Yow fought that battle in the public arena, hoping to inspire others to make a difference in the fight that impacts each one of us.
Since its inception, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised $8.28 million for scientific research grants and programs that serve the underserved in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women.
