Monmouth Hauls in Five Major Awards, Delaware and Stony Brook Collect Honors for 2024 CAA Women’s Soccer Season
Miles McQuiggan
RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 30, 2024) – Monmouth collected five of the CAA’s six major awards with four outright winners and a shared honor, while players from Delaware and Stony Brook also earned recognition from the league’s head coaches.
Monmouth’s
Summer Reimet (Attacking Player of the Year),
Lauren Bruno (Defender of the Year),
Ashley Lavrich (Rookie of the Year), and
Kylee Flynn (Coach of the Year) earned outright honors, while
Liza Suydam shared Midfielder of the Year accolades with Stony Brook’s
Linn Beck. Delaware’s
Kyla Burns was recognized as Goalkeeper of the Year.
Balloting was conducted at the end of the regular season; coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
Reimet scored a league-high 11 goals in the regular season to power Monmouth to the No. 1 seed in the CAA Championship. The junior from New Jersey ranks in the top 25 nationally in goals and points for a Monmouth side that is 11-2-5 in 2024.
Beck helped power Stony Brook to a 12-3-3 regular season and earn the Seawolves a share of their first regular season CAA title. The German is fourth in the league in goals and points for a Stony Brook team in the top 15 nationally in numerous offensive categories, including goals, assists, and points.
Suydam found another gear down the stretch, scoring three times in the final weekend of league play to reach eight goals on the year. The sophomore from Pennsylvania, who was the 2023 CAA Rookie of the Year, ranks seventh in the league with 18 points this fall.
Bruno has led the backline for a Monmouth side that has shut out nine opponents in 18 games in 2024. The Hawks lead the league with a 0.722 goals-against average as a team and hold a +21 goal differential. Monmouth earned at least a share of the regular season title for the second time in three years as a league member.
Burns led the CAA in conference play by holding opponents to six-tenths of a goal per game with an .885 save percentage and posting a clean sheet in 6 of 10 conference matches. Delaware allowed more than one goal once in league play to advance to the CAA Championship after being picked ninth in the preseason.
Lavrich notched five goals and seven assists for a 17-point regular season in her first year in West Long Branch. Her first career goal in August was the opening tally to help Monmouth to a 1-1 draw against a top-25 Virginia Tech team. Lavrich had nine of her 17 points in league play, including five of her seven assists.
Flynn steered Monmouth to its second regular season title in three years as a CAA member and the No. 1 seed for the second time in three years. The Hawks produced the conference’s top scoring defense in the regular season and No. 3 scoring offense in an 11-win campaign entering the CAA Championship.
Eleven CAA teams earned either an All-CAA selection or All-Rookie Team honoree for their efforts in the 2024 season. The All-CAA first team consisted entirely of players from the six teams competing in the upcoming CAA Championship, with three players each from CAA Regular Season Co-Champions Monmouth and Stony Brook, in addition to two from Charleston, and one each from Delaware, Elon, and Hofstra.
Those six programs begin tournament play this weekend with matches on the Jersey Shore and Long Island. A tournament preview will be available on CAASports.com Wednesday evening.
