CAA Tennis Standouts Set To Compete At ITA Conference Masters Championship

RICHMOND, Va. (November 6, 2024) – Several of the top men’s and women’s tennis players in the CAA will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championship at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, which will be held Nov. 7-10 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.

Joseph Wayand and William & Mary senior
Hedda Gurholt will compete in the 32-player men’s and women’s singles draws. Wayland faces Oscar Martinez of Siena in the first round at 9 a.m. on Thursday, while Gurholt takes on Julia Marko of Youngstown State at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The four players who reach the semifinals of the tournament will receive an automatic entry to the NCAA Singles Championship, which will be played Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.

Navya Vadlamudi will compete in the 32-team men’s and women’s doubles competition. Wayland and de Gabriele take on Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley of Richmond at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while Schieroni and Vadlahmudi meet Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Isabella Romanichen of Appalachian State at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The top three doubles teams (finalists and third-place winner) will earn automatic entry to the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Players and teams were selected to compete in the ITA Conference Masters Championships through various qualifying routes. With representation from across the Division I landscape, conferences could determine how they wanted to select their representatives for the tournament with some holding conference tournaments and others using various qualifying factors to select players. The CAA selected its representatives through a vote of the conference's head coaches.
