RICHMOND, Va. (December 30, 2024) – Charleston sophomore guard Deywilk Tavarez earned CAA men’s basketball Player of the Week honors while Hampton freshman guard Daniel Johnson was chosen as the CAA Rookie of the Week.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tavarez was chosen to the Diamond Head Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of victories last week. The sophomore made seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 30 points in a 77-68 win over Loyola Chicago and followed with 15 points and six rebounds as the Cougars beat Charlotte, 84-81. Tavarez has scored double figures in five straight games.
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Daniel Johnson, Hampton
Freshman | Guard | Chicago, Ill./Brewster Academy
Johnson came off the bench to score nine points in 17 minutes to help Hampton defeat Howard, 83-67, last Saturday for its fifth straight win. The freshman was 3-of-5 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, as he matched his career scoring high against a Division I opponent. Johnson added a rebound, an assist and a steal.
