Hofstra’s Tyler Thomas Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Nominee List

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 27, 2024) – In a career of incredible accomplishments, Hofstra’s Tyler Thomas added another one today as he was one of 40 players in the nation to be nominated for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America consideration by the United States Basketball Writers Association. 

The Oscar Robertson Trophy is given out annually to the outstanding men's college basketball player by the USBWA. The trophy is considered to be the oldest of its kind and has been given out since 1959.

Thomas, who was named the CAA Player of the Week yesterday for the third time this season, has had a spectacular season for the Pride. 

Thomas is averaging 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He has started all 29 games this season and is averaging 37.8 minutes per outing. 

Nationally speaking, he is third in scoring, fifth in minutes, first in three-pointers per game, and 59th in field goal percentage. 

In the CAA rankings he ranks first in scoring, 17th in rebounding, ninth in field goal percentage, eighth in assists, 11th in steals, third in three-point field goal percentage, first in three-point field goals made per game, 10th in assist/turnover ratio, ninth in defensive rebounds, and first in minutes played per game. 

Thomas has twice been named to the USBWA National Player of the Week list this season. 

He has scored in double figures in 21 consecutive games and has reached double figures 28 times this season. Thomas has tallied at least 20 points 20 times in 2023-24, 30 points four times, and scored 40 points against High Point earlier this season. 

He has 1,228 points in his Pride career and 2,229 in his collegiate career including his time at Sacred Heart. He ranks 24th in scoring in program history and his career total ranks fourth in the NCAA among active career points.
