Six CAA Baseball Players, Three Teams Receive Recognition From The NCBWA

NCBWA Preseason All-America Team      NCBWA Preseason Top 30 Poll

RICHMOND, Va. (February 7, 2024) – With the start of the 2024 season just over a week away, individual and team recognition continues to roll in for CAA baseball squads.

Six CAA players were chosen to the NCBWA Preseason All-America team, presented by The Game Headwear. Campbell senior outfielder Lawson Harrill, Northeastern junior outfielder Mike Sirota and Huskies’ senior designated hitter Alex Lane received second team All-America accolades. Named to the All-America third team were Northeastern sophomore outfielder Cam Maldonado, Charleston junior first baseman/pitcher Cole Mathis and Northeastern sophomore pitcher Aiven Cabral. In addition to his recognition from the NCBWA, Sirota was honored as a first team preseason All-American by Baseball America.

Harrill hit .371 with team-highs of 22 home runs and 69 RBI’s for the Camels. Sirota batted .346 with 18 homers, a school-record 73 runs scored and 54 RBI’s. Lane hit .318, homered 16 times and drove in 58 runs. Maldonado led NU with a .353 batting average and added 13 homers, 45 RBI’s and a team-high 32 stolen bases. Mathis batted a team-best .330 with nine homers and 51 RBI’s and also excelled on the mound with a 5-1 record and a 3.45 ERA. Cabral went 9-4 with a 2.58 ERA during his rookie campaign and struck out 69.

The NCBWA also released its preseason Top 30 poll. Northeastern was ranked No. 28 in the poll, while UNCW and Campbell were among other teams receiving votes.
