RICHMOND, Va. (March 1, 2024) – The road warriors of CAA Women’s Basketball showed up on Friday night as visiting teams went 6-0 in conference action. Stony Brook and North Carolina A&T were victorious to set up a first-place showdown on Long Island on Sunday. In addition, William & Mary moved into a tie for third place with a win, while Towson and Campbell earned crucial victories in the conference race. Finally, Hampton returned to the win column, snapping a seven-game skid.
Stony Brook 60, Drexel 58 | Box Score
Sherese Pittman scored 20 of her season-high 22 points in the second half, willing Stony Brook (22-3, 13-2 CAA) to a 60-58 victory over Drexel (12-14, 7-8 CAA) at the DAC on Friday night. Pittman was 9-of-18 from the floor, including 8-of-12 after the break, adding a team-best eight rebounds for the Seawolves. Victoria Keenan and Shamarla King contributed a lift off the bench with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Stony Brook trailed by as many as 19 points midway through the third; however, the Seawolves finished the frame on a 16-2 run, including a three at the buzzer by Pittman. They carried the momentum into the fourth, outscoring Drexel 23-16 in the fourth, and three free throws in the final 25 seconds sealed the game for Stony Brook. Amaris Baker matched her season-high with 21 points to pace Drexel.
North Carolina A&T 69, Northeastern 55 | Box Score
Four Aggies scored in double figures, and a big third-quarter effort propelled North Carolina A&T (18-8, 12-3 CAA) to a 69-55 road victory over Northeastern (8-16, 4-11 CAA). Chaniya Clark paced A&T with 19 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double this season. Clark had 15 points in the second half and was joined in double figures by Jordyn Dorsey (12), D’Mya Tucker (11) and Talia Davis (11). With 14 seconds remaining in the first half, Davis stole the inbounds pass, leading to a Dorsey three to give the Aggies a 32-29 halftime lead. That play ignited a 19-0 run as A&T scored 16 consecutive points to begin the third and led by double digits the rest of the way. Derin Erdogan paced a short-handed Northeastern team with 15 points, and Deja Bristol added 14 points with eight rebounds.
William & Mary 68, UNCW 50 | Box Score
William & Mary (15-11, 11-4 CAA) won its third straight game, defeating UNCW (5-21, 3-12 CAA) at Trask Coliseum 68-50 on Friday night. Anahi-Lee Cauley paced W&M with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting and eight rebounds. Kayla Beckwith contributed 13 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting in 15 minutes, while Nylah Young added 12 points in 19 points to round out the Tribe players in double figures. W&M scored the opening basket and led wire-to-wire in the victory. The Tribe ended the first half on a 14-3 run to push its advantage to double digits at the break before outscoring UNCW 19-9 in the third quarter to pull away. Kylah Silver led the effort for UNCW, scoring a game-high 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Taylor Henderson added 13 points and nine boards for the Seahawks.
Towson 67, Charleston 55 | Box Score
Three-point shooting and rebounding led Towson (17-9, 9-6 CAA) to its fourth straight win as the Tigers defeated Charleston (18-8, 10-5 CAA) 67-55 at TD Arena on Friday night. Patricia Anumgba led the way for the Tigers with 22 points, her sixth 20-point effort this season. In addition, Kylie Kornegay-Lucas added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Quinzia Fulmore contributed 12 points and eight boards off the bench. Charleston led 33-31 at halftime, but a buzzer-beater by Aminata Diakite gave Towson all the momentum heading into the break. The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 15-2 run, gaining a double-digit lead, and outscored Charleston 21-7 in the frame. The Cougars cut the deficit to seven in the fourth, but it was as close as they would get. Jada Logan had a game-high 25 points to pace Charleston, while Jenna Annecchiarico added 17 points with seven rebounds.
Campbell 66, Delaware 65 | Box Score
Campbell (15-11, 8-7 CAA) shot over 50.0 percent from the floor with four in double figures as the Camels edged Delaware (10-17, 6-9 CAA) 66-65 at the Bob on Friday night. The Blue Hens finished the game on a 10-0 run but missed the game-winner at the buzzer as their comeback attempt fell short. Shy Tuelle and Gemma Nuñez had 14 points to lead Campbell, while Nuñez added a team-best eight rebounds. Additionally, Christabel Ezumah contributed 12 points, and Svenia Nürenberg chipped in 11 as the Campbell starters scored 56 points on the evening. The Camels led for over 34 minutes in the contest and by as many as 13 in the third quarter. Chloe Wilson paced Delaware with a game-high 22 points and six rebounds.
Hampton 48, Hofstra 42 | Box Score
Hampton (3-22, 3-12 CAA) outlasted Hofstra (9-17, 3-12 CAA) 48-42 in a defensive battle on Friday night on Long Island. The Lady Pirated limited Hofstra to 28.0 percent (14-50) shooting from the floor and 18.2 percent (4-22) from three-point range. Hampton sprinted to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter, which proved pivotal. Camryn Hill scored nine of her team-high 12 points in the opening stanza, shooting 4-of-6 from the field as Hampton shot 56.3 percent (9-16) to begin the contest. The Pride cut the deficit to four (23-19) at halftime but could never pull even, and it was as close as they would get the rest of the way. Sorelle Ineza reached double figures for Hofstra, scoring a game-high 13 points.
