Hofstra Returns to CAA Semifinals with Sunday Night Victory

rd-seeded Hofstra past 6
th-seeded Delaware, 73-58, in the final quarterfinal game of the Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Pride (20-12) advances to the semifinals for the fifth time in the past six years and will take on 7
th-seeded Stony Brook at 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Delaware concluded its season with a 19-14 mark.
Dubar hit 9-of-11 shots from the floor and tallied 14 of his 23 points in the second half. CAA Player of the Year Tyler Thomas poured in 20 points and point guard Jaquan Carlos contributed 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Graduate guard Gerald Drumgoole, Jr. poured in 23 points to lead the Blue Hens and forward Jy’are Davis chipped in 13 points.
Delaware led for much of the opening half behind 13 points from Drumgoole, Jr. and went ahead 29-25 following a Christian Ray jumper with 5:59 to go. However, the Pride closed the period on a 10-0 run to take a 35-29 advantage into the break. Thomas and Dubar combined for nine of the 10 points during the late surge and Carlos added a free throw to finish the half with a team-best 12 points.
Hofstra maintained the momentum early in the second half as Dubar scored 10 of the Pride’s first 17 points, including a steal and dunk that made it 52-38 with 14:29 remaining. The margin never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
The Pride shot a solid 48.1% from the floor and committed only six turnovers, while the Blue Hens shot 41.1% and suffered 15 miscues.
