CAA Softball Weekly Awards – March 19

RICHMOND, Va. (March 19, 2024) – The CAA has announced its softball weekly awards for the week of March 11 through March 17. Monmouth graduate outfielder Dani Dabroski earned CAA Player of the Week honors, and UNCW junior pitcher Kara Hammock was named CAA Pitcher of the Week. Additionally, Delaware freshman Gianna Costaro and Towson freshman Faith McCullough shared CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dani Dabroski, Monmouth
Graduate | Outfield | Cedar Grove, N.J. / Mount Saint Dominic Academy
Dabroski batted .667 (8-12) and posted a .714 on-base percentage, leading Monmouth to a 3-1 week and a CAA series victory. The graduate outfielder hit safely in all four games, with three multi-hit efforts, recording four runs scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases. In the series opener against Hampton, Dabroski was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs batted in, including the game-tying RBI single and walk-off RBI single. She concluded the weekend with a 3-for-3 effort, recording two doubles, three runs scored, one RBI and a walk, helping the Hawks clinch the series victory.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kara Hammock, UNCW
Junior | Mechanicsville, Va. / Atlee
Hammock was 2-0 in the circle with a 0.58 ERA, leading UNCW to a weekend sweep of Elon. The junior right-hander tossed 12.0 innings with six strikeouts and has now won four straight starts – all coming in CAA play. In the series opener against the Phoenix, Hammock went the distance, scattering four hits across seven innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five. She followed the effort with 5.0 innings in the series finale without giving up an earned run.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Gianna Costaro, Delaware
Freshman | Infield | Bellmore, N.Y. / John F. Kennedy
Costaro slashed .417/.500/.750 with nine RBIs and two runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Blue Hens. The freshman went 5-for-12 at the plate with a double, home run and two walks, reaching safely in all four games. She ended the weekend with back-to-back multi-hit efforts. In game two against N.C. A&T, Costaro went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including the game-tying two-run double in the top of the sixth. In the series finale, the freshman went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and a double, recording six RBIs and one run scored.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Faith McCullough, Towson
Freshman | Pitcher | Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun
McCullough made three relief appearances in the circle, going 1-0 with a save, helping Towson to a 3-1 week and CAA series victory. The freshman tossed 4.1 innings without allowing an earned run. In a midweek matchup against Delaware State, McCullough entered in the seventh to pick up her first career save. Over the weekend, she tossed 3.2 innings of relief in game two against Campbell, scattering four hits without allowing an earned run to collect her first career winning decision.
