CAA Softball Weekly Awards – March 5

RICHMOND, Va. (March 5, 2024) – The CAA has announced its softball weekly awards for the week of Feb. 26 through Mar. 3. Pitchers highlighted the weekly honors as Delaware junior pitcher/utility Morgan Hess was named CAA Player of the Week and Stony Brook graduate right-hander Ashton Melaas earned CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. In addition, Campbell freshman pitcher Megan Gregory collected CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Morgan Hess, Delaware
Junior | Pitcher / Utility | South Riding, Va. / Freedom HS
Hess slashed .625/.667/1.000 and went 1-1 in the circle with a 0.75 ERA, helping Delaware to a 2-1 record at its home invitational. Hess hit safely in all three games, recording two multi-hit efforts. The junior had five hits total, including three doubles, and scored two runs for the Blue Hens at the plate. In the circle, the junior right-hander tossed 9.1 innings and tallied 13 punchouts, scattering five hits and limiting the opposition to a .156 batting average.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ashton Melaas, Stony Brook
Graduate | Rockton, Ill. / Hononegah Community
Melaas made three appearances in the circle for the Seawolves this weekend, posting a 1-0 record and two saves to lead Stony Brook to a 4-0 record during the road trip. The graduate right-hander logged 8.0 innings without surrendering an earned run and recorded three strikeouts. On Saturday, she recorded saves in both games of Stony Brook’s doubleheader against George Mason before twirling a complete-game shutout against George Washington on Sunday.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Megan Gregory, Campbell
Freshman | Pitcher | Adairsville, Ga. / Adairsville HS
Gregory led Campbell to a victory over Rutgers at the UNC Mizuno Classic, going the distance in the circle during Campbell’s 3-2 extra-inning victory. The freshman right-handed picked up her first career win in the effort, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing just one earned run. Gregory scattered eight hits and recorded three strikeouts as the Camels defeated a Power Five opponent for the second straight season.
