WASHINGTON (March 7, 2024) – North Carolina A&T will face William & Mary and Elon will take on Hampton on Friday afternoon to open the 2024 Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship, which runs through Tuesday at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Championship will begin with two Friday First Round games, as No. 12 North Carolina A&T (7-24, 5-13) and No. 13 William & Mary (9-22, 4-14) having the honors of opening 13 games in five days in the nation’s capital at 2 p.m. The Tribe’s three-point attack has been led by Gabe Dorsey, who is seventh in the nation in three-pointers per game (3.35). The Aggies were victorious in the regular season meeting in Greensboro, winning 76-69 on a 27-point night from Landon Glasper, who ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring before being limited down the stretch.

No. 11 Elon (13-18, 6-12) takes on No. 14 Hampton (8-23, 3-15) in Friday’s second game. Both teams picked up impressive wins in the closing weeks of league play, as Elon won at the buzzer in Wilmington on February 17, while Hampton was victorious at home against Towson that same day. Elon won the regular season matchup, 80-74.

The winners of Friday’s contests will join six other teams who have secured a spot in Saturday’s Second Round. The afternoon will open with No. 8 Monmouth (17-14, 10-8) taking on No. 9 Campbell (14-17, 8-10) at 12 p.m. The teams’ previous meeting was a Game of the Year contender in the CAA, as Anthony Dell’Orso’s 31 points for the Camels were outdueled by 37 from Monmouth’s Xander Rice, the final three of which came on a half-court buzzer-beater to win, 88-87.

No. 5 Towson (18-13, 11-7) will play the winner of the N.C. A&T/William & Mary game at 2:30 p.m. The Tigers won their regular season matchups with both teams, including a 26-point victory in Greensboro last Thursday. Towson’s Tyler Tejada was voted by the league’s coaches as Rookie of the Year.
