Noll Matches Career-High in Stony Brook’s CAA Second Round Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 9, 2024) –
The Stony Brook trio of Dean Noll, Aaron Clarke and Tyler Stephenson-Moore combined for 63 points to lead the 7th-seeded Seawolves to a 75-65 triumph over #10 Northeastern in the second round of the Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship on Saturday night at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
 
Stony Brook (18-14) advances to play 2nd-seeded Drexel in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. on Sunday, while Northeastern’s season came to a close with a 12-20 mark.


 
Noll matched his career high with 23 points, Stephenson-Moore tallied 21 points and Clarke poured in 19 points for the Seawolves. They each hit three treys and combined to go 9-for-20 (45%) from beyond the arc.
 
Four Northeastern players reached double digits, paced by Masai Troutman with 16 points and reserve Collin Metcalf, who set career highs with 14 points and nine rebounds. The Huskies also got 13 points from Jared Turner and 12 points and a career-best 11 assists from Rashad King.
 
Stony Brook led for nearly the entire first half behind the play of Noll, who scored a team-best 14 points, including a one-handed shot in the lane that put the Seawolves ahead 25-22 with 3:49 left. A minute later, Northeastern took its first lead, 27-25, on a Turner three-pointer that was the Huskies’ sixth trey of the half. However, the Seawolves closed the period on a 10-2 run, which was started by a Clarke four-point play and capped by a Noll triple that made it 35-29 at the break.
 

 
The Seawolves never relinquished the lead over the final 20 minutes, but a Metcalf jumper kept Northeastern within five, 47-42, with 12:49 to play. However, Stony Brook wouldn’t allow the Huskies to get any closer as Clarke tallied five straight points and Noll knocked down a three as part of an 8-2 run that put the Seawolves in control, 62-47, with 4:34 on the clock.
 
Stony Brook hit 42.6% from the floor and was aided by 20-of-22 shooting from the free throw line.
Northeastern finished with 35.4% field goal shooting and was 12-of-21 at the line.
