WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 9, 2024) –
Towson erased a six-point deficit with a 20-0 second-half surge, powering the 5th-seeded Tigers past #13 William & Mary, 67-56, in the second round of the Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

The victory sends Towson (19-13) into a quarterfinal matchup with #4 UNCW at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. William & Mary closes the year with a 10-23 mark.

Freshman guard Dylan Williamson came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points for Towson, while Nendah Tarke contributed 14 points, a team-high eight rebounds and three steals. The Tigers also got 12 points from Tomiwa Sulaiman and 10 points from Charles Thompson.

Guard Gabe Dorsey topped the Tribe with 18 points, Chase Lowe tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Trey Moss chipped in 11 points.

W&M was up 30-29 at halftime and got back-to-back treys from Gabe Dorsey and Caleb Dorsey to take its largest lead, 44-38, with 14:13 to go. However, Towson took over from there, holding the Tribe scoreless for the next 10:25 while heating up offensively.

Williamson made a pair of free throws to put the Tigers ahead 45-44 and later drained a trey that made it 52-44 with 8:14 left. A Thompson putback extended the lead to 13 with under five minutes to play and the Tigers had a 58-44 lead before a Moss three ended the Tribe’s 10:25 scoring drought with 3:57 on the clock. Towson kept the margin at 11 or more points the rest of the way.

Towson shot 47.8% from the floor and made 13-of-17 free throws in the second half, while holding W&M to 27.6% FG shooting.

Neither team led by more than five in a back-and-forth opening half that featured 10 lead changes and five ties. Sulaiman scored five straight points to give Towson an early 9-4 advantage before W&M answered with eight straight points keyed by 3-pointers from Sean Houpt and Moss to move on top by three. The lead would change hands eight times over the final 10 minutes with the Tribe taking a 30-29 edge into halftime. Gabe Dorsey scored 10 points in the first half for W&M, while Tarke had eight for Towson.
