Hunter Peters
RICHMOND, Va. (June 20, 2024) – CAA Champion Northeastern and newcomer Campbell garnered two
major awards each in the announcement of CAA Women’s Track and Field year-end honors as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Campbell sophomore Jaidyn Ramsey was named CAA Track Athlete of the Year, and Northeastern fifth-year Dominique Biron earned CAA Field Athlete of the Year accolades. In addition, Campbell freshman Aaliyah Brown-Muhammad received CAA Rookie of the Year recognition, and Tramaine Shaw of Northeastern was pegged as the CAA Coach of the Year by her peers.
Ramsey was a two-event qualifier at the NCAA East Prelims, running in the 100m and 200m dashes at Regionals. The sophomore placed 18th in the 100m (11.33) before a 28th-place finish in the 200m (23.40). Ramsey was the CAA Champion in both events while helping Campbell to the gold medal in the 4x100m relay and a sixth-place effort in the 4x400m relay, earning Most Outstanding Track Performer accolades at the CAA Championship. Ramsey broke meet records in the 100 and 200 with personal-best times of 11.26 and 23.28, respectively. In addition, her winning time in the 100m dash broke the conference record established in 2007. Furthermore, her leadoff leg on the Campbell 4x1 helped the Camels to a CAA and meet record of 44.42, breaking the all-time mark set in 1999.
Biron adds to a long list of accolades with her latest honor. During her career, the fifth-year multi has earned four year-end honors and five Most Outstanding Performer distinctions at the conference championships between indoor and outdoor. This spring, Biron received All-America honorable mention for placing 17th in the heptathlon (5,622 pts) at the NCAA Championship. It marked the first time since 2007 that the CAA had a national qualifier in the heptathlon. Additionally, she was a regional qualifier in the long jump, placing 13th (6.16m) at NCAA East Prelims. Biron won the long jump (6.21m) at the CAA Championship, finished second in the heptathlon and fifth in the 100m hurdles (13.82). Finally, Biron broke the Northeastern program record with her personal-best score of 5,699 points in the heptathlon.
Brown-Muhammad was an NCAA East Preliminary qualifier in the 100m hurdles – the only first-year competitor
in the conference to make regionals. She finished fourth in the 100m hurdles (13.66) at the CAA Championship after running a season-best time of 13.31 in the prelims. In addition, Brown-Muhammad helped Campbell win the gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the CAA Championship. The Camels 4x1 posted a time of 44.42 to break the conference and meet record in the event.
Shaw collects her second CAA Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year honor
during her tenure. She led the Huskies to their third outdoor team title in program history and first since 2018. Under her leadership, Northeastern earned 10 All-CAA finishes, including four gold medalists at the conference championships. Furthermore, the Huskies sent four women to the NCAA East Preliminary and were the only team in the conference to have an NCAA Championship qualifier.
