SCHEDULE AND RESULTS
NEWS AND NOTES
History Breaker
With 37 points against Charleston, Stony Brook’s Zaida Gonzalez had one of the best-scoring performances in the conference in almost two years. Helping the Seawolves overcome an 11-point deficit, Gonzalez notched the most points in a conference game since Feb. 19, 2023, and the most by a CAA student-athlete since March. 16, 2023. Not only that, but the guard set a program record for most points in a single game and recorded a double-double along the way. On top of national recognition across social media for her performance, Gonzalez earned the first CAA weekly honor of her career, and the first for Stony Brook this season.
One Team Remains
North Carolina A&T remains the only unbeaten team in CAA play at 4-0 following weekend victories over Towson and Delaware. After an 0-4 start to the season, the Aggies have won eight of the last 11 games and are on a six-game win streak. Led by Jordyn Dorsey’s 15.7 points per game, the preseason favorites remain one of the hottest teams in the CAA as conference play continues. “We are the preseason favorites,” said head coach Tarrell Robinson. “We expect everyone’s best effort, and you know what, we also plan to give them ours. These road victories are character and confidence builders for us. We must keep learning and improving every step of the way.”
On the Board
With just one game on its schedule last weekend, Campbell secured its first CAA win of the season in emphatic fashion. Defeating Hampton 72-42 on Sunday afternoon, Campbell earned its largest margin of victory over a CAA foe in program history with a 30-point win. Led by a career-high 16 points from freshman Ciara Alexander, the Camels held Hampton to 20 first-half points, the fewest scored in a half by a D-1 opponent this season.
Explosion of Offense
In its most explosive offensive performance this season, William & Mary defeated Monmouth 83-74. The Tribe was efficient shooting 31-65 from the floor and making seven of their last 12 3-point attempts after starting 0-7. William & Mary was also 14-16 from the free throw line. Individually, Bella Nascimento and Cassidy Geddes both had career highs, scoring 27 and 26 points respectively. Nascimento was 10-18 from the floor, while Geddes saw 15 of her 26 points come in the fourth quarter.
A Weekend to Remember
In addition to Gonzalez’s historic performance, a few other CAA standouts had conference-high games:
- Taylor Barbot scored 29 points for Charleston against Stony Brook, ranking third in the CAA this season.
- William & Mary’s Bella Nascimento and Monmouth’s Damaris Rodriguez had 27 points in their respective games, good for fifth in the conference this season.
- Both Northeastern’s Abigail Jegede (5-5) and Charleston’s McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (10-10) were 100% from the charity stripe in their game last weekend.
