RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 29, 2025) – Last season’s CAA Men’s Lacrosse Champion, Towson, was selected as the preseason favorite to go back-to-back in a vote by the league’s eight head coaches. Towson junior midfielder Mikey Weisshaar was chosen as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.

Towson tallied six first-place votes and 48 points to sit atop the preseason predicted order of finish. After earning a spot in the CAA Championship game last season, Delaware was selected second in the poll with 44 points, receiving the remaining two first-place votes. Fairfield finished third, with Drexel, Stony Brook, and Hofstra in the next three spots separated by four points. Monmouth and Hampton round out the eight-team poll.

Weisshaar earned Preseason Player of the Year honors after a stellar sophomore season for the Tigers. The midfielder scored 42 goals and added 19 assists in 17 starts last season. Weisshaar was highly decorated for his performance, being named an Inside Lacrosse Media First-Team All-American, USILA Second-Team All-American, and Third-Team All-American from USA Lacrosse. He also garnered an All-CAA First Team selection.

Four of Weisshaar's teammates, - Joaquin Villagomez, Matt Constantinides, Sam Morin, and Conor Spagnolli - were on the Preseason Team. Drexel had the next highest number of selections, with three, while Fairfield had two. Hofstra, Monmouth, and Delaware each had one of their student-athletes make the team.

From March 10 to May 11, Towson reeled off nine consecutive victories en route to its ninth CAA title in program history. With 13 overall victories on the season, Towson had its winningest season since 2016 and punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The nine-game win streak was the longest in the school’s DI history. The Tigers were the hottest offense in the conference last season, leading in total goals (247), goals per game (14.53), total assists (160), assists per game (9.41), and points per game (23.94).

Delaware earned a spot in the CAA Championship game last season for the third year in a row. With a 9-5 record in 2024, the Blue Hens will lean on goalkeeper Kevin Ellington, an All-CAA Preseason selection who was named the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year. Delaware allowed the least goals in the conference at 132, while also having the best save percentage with 59.3%.

Fairfield made its first appearance in the CAA tournament since 2016 last season, after posting an 8-7 record, and going 5-2 in the conference.  The Stags return last year’s CAA Rookie of the Year, Julian Radossich, who broke Fairfield’s single-season record with 26 caused turnovers.

Drexel rounds out the top four after a 6-9 season in 2024. The Dragons will have a new face at the helm this year with Steve Boyle being named the head coach of the program. Boyle steps into a team reached its fifth-straight CAA tournament last season. Earning First-Team All-CAA honors, Gavin Kelly returns for his sophomore season after scoring 14 goals and tacking on 16 assists for 30 points.

The 2025 CAA men’s lacrosse season begins Feb. 1, with the top four teams in the conference qualifying for the CAA Championship on May 1-3.
