Ben Kane
RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 5, 2025) – Four teams garnered CAA Men’s Soccer major awards, with Elon, Hofstra, UNCW, and Stony Brook all being recognized by the league’s head coaches.
Hofstra’s
Laurie Goddard was chosen as the CAA Player of the Year and CAA Midfielder of the Year, while his head coach,
Richard Nuttall, received CAA Coach of the Year honors. Stony Brook’s
Jamie Orson and UNCW’s
Jake Shannon earned a share of Defender of the Year accolades. Elon’s
Dominik Renz was voted the Rookie of the Year.
Balloting was conducted at the end of the regular season; coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
CAA Preseason Player of the Year Laurie Goddard fulfilled his destiny, earning Player of the Year honors while also being named Midfielder of the Year. With a career-best 10 goals on the campaign thus far, the senior midfielder ranks second in the conference with his tally while also sitting 12th nationally. The Englishman is one of the most clutch players in the country, with his six game-winners earning him the No. 1 spot in Division I. Alongside five assists, Goddard has 25 points to his name in 2025, ranking 11th in the country. He is the first Hofstra player to be honored as CAA Midfielder of the Year.
Crowned Co-Defensive Player of the Year in his first year in the CAA, Orson has helped restrict Stony Brook’s opponents to an impressive 18 goals on the year. A part of six shutouts, including two in the final two games of the season, Orson has anchored the Seawolves to their most clean sheets since the 2017 season. Offensively, the Druid Hills alum has tacked on four goals and an assist.
Shannon earned the first major award of his career, having played all but one minute for the Seahawks. The three-time All-CAA performer has been a two-way threat contributing on both offense and defense. Lifting UNCW to its 29th CAA Tournament appearance, Shannon has been an anchor at the back and has helped the squad record three shutouts. On the attack, the Seahawks’ captain has contributed three goals and two assists.
Renz dominated in his first season of NCAA soccer, tying the team lead with three goals alongside two assists. All the German forward's goals are game winners, including a pair in conference play against UNCW and Charleston. Renz sits second in the CAA and 22nd in the nation in the statistical category. The two-time CAA Rookie of the Week was impressive during the beginning stretch of the season, scoring three goals in the space of two weeks.
Nuttall, the winningest coach in Hofstra history, earned his fourth CAA Coach of the Year award and first since the 2021 season. Closing the season out as No. 22, the 36-year head coach, saw three of his players earn All-CAA accolades, including Goddard, who became the program’s first conference player of the year honoree since 2024. Under Nuttall’s tutelage, the Pride clinched the No. 1 seed in a difficult North Division with a conference-high 21 points. After a 4-4 start to the season, the eight-time CAA Champion has guided his program to an eight-game win streak, the best in the nation currently.
All 10 programs were represented on either an All-CAA or All-Rookie team for their efforts in the 2025 campaign. Campbell earned an impressive 11 selections, with six finding a spot on the All-CAA First Team. Stony Brook was the standout in the North Division, with two players earning First Team accolades.
Six programs will battle it out for the CAA Championship starting on Thursday afternoon. All five games can be seen on FloCollege.
