TEAM NOTES
Big Win for the Cougars
Charleston’s dominance to start the season continued, defeating ACC opponent, Florida State, 75-70 on Sunday afternoon. With the Seminoles' net ranking sitting at 106, the Cougars jumped four spots to No. 94, marking their highest position in over two weeks. Junior Taylor Barbot earned CAA Player of the Week honors for her performance, racking up a game-high 20 points and eight assists while also grabbing four rebounds. Nine different Cougars scored in the contest as Charleston defeated a Power 4 school for the second consecutive year. It also earned its first victory over an ACC school since Charleston defeated Clemson in 2009.
Von Essen Reaches 1,000
Preseason All-CAA selection Emma Von Essen picked up right where she left off for the Pride. The senior guard eclipsed 1,000 career points for Hofstra in the loss to St. John’s, becoming one of just 27 players in Hofstra history to do so. A highly decorated athlete, the Long Island native’s best season came in 2023-24. Averaging a career-high 11.6 points per game, Von Essen sat inside the conference’s top-20 scorers, while she averaged a CAA-best 2.7 3-pointers made per game.
100-piece
On Thursday, Campbell became just the fourth program to score 100 in a game, defeating Carolina University 100-43. Over 2,700 elementary students were in attendance as the Camels scored their most points since 2023. Six players reached double digits, including Hadleigh Dill, who had a team-high 13 on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor. On the whole, all 12 players who saw the court had at least four points and played at least 12 minutes. The Camels also committed only four fouls, a new record low for the program.
Historic Tuesday Afternoon
In its second-to-last non-conference game of the season, Drexel put up historic numbers to defeat Chestnut Hill 95-38. The 57-point margin marked the widest in program history, topping Drexel’s 95-43 victory against Philadelphia Textiles on December 8, 1986. It is also the first time the Dragons scored more than 90 points since 2010, and the fourth time in program history. Statistically, Drexel had its best rebounding performance, corralling more than 50 for the first time since 2003, and coming just two shy of the program’s single-game assist record with 30 against Chestnut Hill.
An Honorable Mention Has Entered The Chat
Stony Brook’s Diaka Berete was named an honorable mention Player of the Week from the Women’s Met Basketball Writers for her performances this past week. The graduate student averaged 10.5 rebounds and 7.5 rebounds in the 1-1 week. Berete scored a game-high 17 points in the loss to St. John's, adding eight rebounds and four steals. She followed that performance up with four points and seven rebounds in a win over Duquesne.
