CAA Announces Rookie Swimmers And Divers Of The Month For November/December

RICHMOND, Va. (December 9, 2025) – The CAA has announced its CAA Men’s and Women’s Rookie Swimmers of the Month, honoring top performances from freshmen during competition in November and December.

CAA MEN’S ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Izan Arroyo Lopez del Castillo, Monmouth (Cataluna, Spain)
 
Lopez del Castillo posted seven first-place finishes and set three school records over three events last month. The freshman set new Monmouth records in the 200 IM (1:49.06) and the 1650 free (15:21.83) at the Patriot Invitational. He tallied wins in the 200 free (1:41.1), 500 free (4:39.5) and 200 IM against Iona and added first-place finishes in the 1000 free (9:25.56) and 100 free (47.27) against Manhattan. Lopez del Castillo owns the CAA’s second-fastest time in the 1650 free, third in the 1000 free, seventh in the 200 free and eighth in the 200 IM.
 
CAA WOMEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Abby Gowern, Northeastern (Hookset, N.H.)
 
Gowern turned in strong performances in three November/December meets for Northeastern. At the Terrier Invitational, the freshman placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.24, which is the fifth-fastest in the CAA. She followed with a second-place effort in the 1650 free with a time of 16:46.77 that is the best in the conference this season. In a team win over New Hampshire, Gowern tallied individual victories in the 500 free and 1000 free, with the 1000 free time (10:28.04) ranking 11th in the league.
 
CAA WOMEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Alex Tysinger, UNCW (Shelby, N.C.)
 
Tysinger excelled in a pair of November meets for UNCW. In a tri-meet with William & Mary and Queens, the freshman won the 100 free (50.73) and was second in the 50 free (23.56). At the Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy, she placed seventh in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free. However, her time of 22.88 in the 50 free prelims was the third-fastest in the CAA and her prelim time of 50.15 in the 100 free was also third-fastest in the conference.
