CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - FEB. 24

RICHMOND, Va. (February 24, 2025) – Charleston first baseman Payton Frehner was chosen as the CAA baseball Player of the Week, while Northeastern left-hander Will Jones and UNCW right-hander Zane Taylor shared Pitcher of the Week honors. UNCW pitcher Cam Bagwell was named the Rookie of the Week.

CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Payton Frehner, Charleston – Jr., 1B – Waukesha, Wisc.
Frehner batted .529 (9-17) with a double, two homers, eight runs scored and seven RBI’s in Charleston’s 3-1 week. The junior scored two runs and reached base at least twice in all four games, which included a road victory at Coastal Carolina and a series win over Seton Hall. Against SHU, he hit .615 (8-13) homered twice and drove in seven.

CAA Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week
Will Jones, Northeastern – Gr., LHP – South Hamilton, Mass.
Jones allowed only an infield single over 6.0 shutout innings in a 5-0 win against Indiana State last Saturday. The left-hander struck out six and walked one against a Sycamores’ offense that entered the weekend batting .354 and averaging 15.0 runs per game. Jones moved to 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 11.0 frames.

CAA Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week
Zane Taylor, UNCW – Sr., RHP – Franklinton, N.C.
Taylor held UNC Asheville to three singles and no earned runs over 7.0 innings in a complete game 13-1 win last Friday. The right-hander struck out a career-high 11 and walked only one to improve to 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA. Taylor picked up his 18h career win to move into a tie for 19th all-time at UNCW.

CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Cam Bagwell, UNCW – Fr., RHP – Pineville, N.C.
Bagwell scattered three singles over 6.0 scoreless innings to earn his first collegiate win in a 7-1 triumph over UNC Asheville on Sunday. The right-hander struck out three, walked one and only allowed one runner to reach second base. Bagwell has a 0.79 ERA through 11.1 innings this season.
