CAA Softball Weekly Awards – Feb. 25

RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware’s Gianna Costaro and UNCW’s Maggie Pertee split Player of the Week honors, while Monmouth teammates Jayla Cadena and Kylee McLain capture Pitcher and Rookie of the Week accolades on Tuesday.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gianna Costaro, Delaware
Sophomore | Infielder | Bellmore, N.Y.
Costaro hit .600/.692/.900 in four games (2-2) of the Mizuno Classic, including a home run and five RBIs. Costaro had a pair of multi-hit games, starting with a 2-for-3 performance with a walk against Virginia on Feb. 22. She followed up with a two-RBI performance against Penn. The following day, Costaro went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a three-run shot against the Quakers. The sophomore finished the weekend going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and a walk against the Cavaliers.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maggie Pertee, UNCW
Senior | Infielder | Uniontown, Ohio
Pertee unloaded an 8-for-14 showing at the dish with a triple and a walk across five wins in the team’s second home tournament. She slugged a team-high .714 over the weekend, producing four multi-hit games and scoring four total runs. The senior infielder produced back-to-back two-hit performances to open the weekend, scoring once and against UMass and crossing twice against DePaul. Pertee closed the weekend with another set of two-hit outings, driving in her lone run of the weekend against the Blue Demons.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jayla Cadena, Monmouth

Cadena posted a 2-0 record in the circle last weekend at the Scotsman Invitational. In three appearances, the California product tossed 12.0 scoreless innings, striking two batters and walking four. She picked up her first win of the season against Cleveland State, where she threw three shutout innings in relief. Cadena also smacked a pair of hits and helped herself by scoring the game-winning run in the win over Presbyterian. She followed up by hurling a complete game shutout in Saturday’s win over Presbyterian, going seven innings, allowing seven hits, walking two and striking out a pair of batters.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kylee McLain, Monmouth
Freshman | Outfielder | Bethany, Conn.
McLain started all four games at the Scotsman Invitational over the weekend. She produced a .333 batting average (5-for-15), a pair of doubles, two tallies, and three RBIs. The Bethany, Conn., native hit a game-tying sac fly in the seventh inning against Cleveland State before Monmouth secured the win three batters later. McLain registered her first career three-hit outing with a 3-for-4 performance in the Sunday win over UMES, recording a double, two runs, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base.
