WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 7, 2025) – Four CAA Lacrosse student-athletes were named to the 2025 Tewaaraton Men’s and Women’s Watch Lists as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation this week.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the organization.
Towson junior midfielder Mikey Weisshaar and Delaware graduate student goalie Kevin Ellington were recognized on the men’s side, while Drexel redshirt junior goalie Jenika Cuocco, and Stony Brook senior defender Avery Hines were honored on the women’s list.
Weisshaar was named the 2025 CAA Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year after an impressive sophomore season. Scoring 42 goals along with 19 assists, the junior midfielder garnered Inside Lacrosse Media First Team All-America, USILA Second Team All-America and Third Team All-America honors for the 2024 campaign. Weisshaar scored two goals and registered an assist in the team’s season opener against Johns Hopkins.
Ellington was the only shot-stopper in the nation last season to finish top 10 in goals against average (9.60), save percentage (.590) and saves per game (13.36), earning him 2024 CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors. The graduate student was an All-American Honorable Mention for both USA Lacrosse and USILA last year. Ellington will open the 2025 campaign on Saturday, squaring off with No. 18/19 Utah in Salt Lake City at 2 p.m. ET.
Cuocco was tabbed as the 2025 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year after an All-American campaign last season. The New York native finished alongside the nation’s best in save percentage (.569), and total saves (224), leading Drexel to its fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Cuocco also ranked second in the NCAA Division I with 11.94 saves per game to go with a 9.05 goals-against average (8th in NCAA). Cuocco and the Dragons will begin the 2025 slate on Saturday when they face Mount St. Mary’s at noon.
Hines led Stony Brook to an 18-3 record and second-straight CAA Championship. The defender ranked fourth in the nation with 3.14 caused turnovers per game, setting the CAA record for most in a single season with 66. Hines was part of a Seawolves defense that limited its opponents to 8.1 goals per game, good for second in the nation. Hines and No. 14/14 Stony Brook will start the 2025 season on the road against Bryant in a noon matchup on Wednesday.
