Washington D.C. (Mar. 13, 2025) – No. 5 Monmouth weathered multiple offensive swings from No. 13 Hampton and picked up a 62-54 victory in the second round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 Women’s Basketball Tournament at CareFirst Arena on Thursday afternoon.
Divine Dibula came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points for the Hawks, shooting an impressive 70% (7-10) from the field. Cait Wetmore got double digits from two other players as post player Belle Kranbuhl (12) and guard Damaris Rodriguez (13) reached mark. Monmouth scored on a .421 clip from the floor.
Hampton was paced by Aisha Dabo with 12 points and eight rebounds. Pirates’ point guard Amyah Reaves was one steal away from tying the CAA Championship record, poking the ball free seven times while adding eight points, five assists, and eight rebounds.
Monmouth started the game off on a strong note, as Taisha Exanor and Damaris Rodriguez scored within the first two minutes to lead Monmouth on a 6-0 run. With 3:31 on the remaining in the first, Aisha Dabo found Hampton’s first points of the game grabbing an offensive board and tipping it in. Monmouth held the Pirates to six points in the quarter on 3-for-22 FG shooting as it went up 18-6.
The Hawks extended their lead to 24-6 early in the second quarter before the Pirates found the scoring touch, piecing together a 15-0 run. Dabo drew the game level at 29 with exactly one minute left on the clock in the first half, hitting a midrange jumper. After a defensive stop, Hampton took its first lead of the game, 31-29 thanks to Le’asia Foreman to close out the half. Foreman had a team-high eight points in the quarter.
Monmouth knotted the game at 33 to start the second half, before Reaves scored four-straight. The scoring frenzy continued, as Hampton capped off the quarter with a slim 42-41 advantage entering the final ten minutes of play.
The Hawks reeled off the first eight points of the final quarter, going up 49-42 on a Kranbuhl bucket with 7:43 to go. With 2:39 to go, Hampton pulled the game to within one possession, 57-54, for the first time since the start of the quarter with a bucket from Reaves. Dibula’s contested layup in the final minute of the game ultimately sealed the win for Monmouth.
Monmouth moves on to the quarterfinals and will battle No. 4 Drexel on Friday, Mar. 14 at 2:30 p.m. The matchup from CareFirst Arena in Washington D.C. will be streaming live on FloCollege.
