Washington D.C. (Mar. 15, 2025) – Third-seeded Campbell knocked down a season-high 14 three-pointers and cruised past No. 2 Charleston, 80-59, in the semifinals of the Credit Union 1 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday afternoon at CareFirst Arena.
The Fighting Camels (21-11) advance to their first CAA championship game in only their second year as a conference member, where they will meet No. 9 William & Mary at 2 p.m. on Sunday in a contest televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Charleston fell to 24-6 after having its nine-game winning streak come to an end.
Campbell shot an impressive 50% (14-of-28) from beyond the arc and outrebounded Charleston, 56-38, leading to 20 second chance points. The Fighting Camels’ defense held the Cougars to 26.5% field goal shooting.
Five Campbell players scored double figures, led by freshman Jasmine Felton with a team-high 16 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. Fellow freshman Ciara Alexander also posted a double-double (12 points/14 rebounds). Courtney Dahlquist (12 points), Hadleigh Dill (12 points) and Gianni Boone (11 points) completed the double-digit scorers and point guard Gemma Nunez flirted with a triple-double with nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
CAA Player of the Year Taryn Barbot poured in a game-high 26 points with eight rebounds to pace Charleston. Jazmyn Stone chipped in 12 points.
Campbell sprinted out to a quick 8-0 advantage behind three-pointers from Dahlquist and Felton, but Charleston climbed back within 18-14 at the end of the opening quarter.
The Cougars cut the deficit to 27-25 midway through the second quarter as Taryn Barbot capped a 7-0 spurt with a trey as part of her 12 first-half points. However, the Fighting Camels responded with 10 straight points to close the half, including threes from Dill and Nunez to go up 37-25 at the break.
Campbell continued the momentum out of the locker room, opening the third quarter with a 15-4 run to expand their advantage to 50-29. Dahlquist nailed two treys and Boone hit a pair of layups during the surge before Audrey Fuller finished it with a three from the corner. The Fighting Camels closed the period with another Dill triple from the corner to take a commanding 64-40 lead.
Campbell maintained a lead of at least 20 points throughout the final quarter.
Campbell will be looking to win its first conference championship since claiming the ASUN title in 2000.
