Washington D.C. (Mar. 14, 2025) –Third-seeded Campbell broke open a tight game with a 27-point third quarter and rolled past No. 11 Towson, 73-54, in the final quarterfinal game of the Credit Union 1 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday night at CareFirst Arena.
The Fighting Camels (20-11) advance to play No. 2 Charleston in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Towson, which became the first No. 11 seed to reach the quarterfinals since 2006, ended its season with a 12-20 mark.
Senior guard Audrey Fuller led a balanced scoring effort for Campbell with 14 points, while Courtney Dahlquist tallied 11 points and Ciara Alexander added 10 points off the bench.
Towson got 14 points apiece from India Johnston and Anasia Staton. Freshman Khady Leye recorded a double-double off the bench with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
After closing the first half on an 8-0 run to go up 33-25, Campbell continued the surge in the third quarter. Four straight points from Fuller kickstarted a 15-0 spurt in just over four minutes. Dahlquist drained a pair of treys and Gianni Boone made two layups before a Jasmine Felton layup put Campbell ahead 53-30 with 4:03 remaining in the period. The Camels added another three from Hadleigh Dill on the way to a commanding 60-35 advantage after three.
Campbell maintained a lead of more than 20 points through much of the fourth quarter to advance to the semifinals for the first time in its second year as a league member.
Neither team led by more than four in a tightly contested opening quarter. A three-point play by Leye put Towson up by one in the final minute, but the Camels answered with an Alexander three-point play to go up 16-14 after one.
In the second quarter, a 6-0 Tigers run capped by a Kayla Morris layup evened the contest at 25-25 with 2:23 left in the period. However, the Camels went into the locker room with eight unanswered points over the final 1:46 completed by a Gianni Boone layup at the buzzer.
Campbell shot 46.3% from the floor for the game, while limiting Towson to 33.3% shooting. The Camels dished out 17 assists and committed only eight turnovers.
