RICHMOND, Va. (Mar. 19, 2025) – Three CAA women’s basketball programs will hit the court on Thursday night in postseason play. No.16 William & Mary will make its NCAA Tournament debut against No. 16 High Point at 9 p.m. from Austin Texas, while North Carolina A&T and Campbell will compete in the WBIT and WNIT respectively.
Charleston earned a bye to the second round of the WNIT will await the winner of a first-round matchup between Howard and Siena.
Winning its first-ever nationally televised contest last Sunday, the CAA Champions will be back in the national spotlight as William & Mary earned a date with High Point in the First Four on Thursday at 9 p.m. from Austin, Texas on ESPN 2.
Playing in the CAA Championship Game for the first time since 1993, the Tribe overturned a 14-point deficit to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. William & Mary stormed back to capture the first-ever basketball title for the school in a game that saw CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Bella Nascimento drop a career-high 33 points alongside 11 rebounds.
Having not met since 2014 in a non-conference matchup, William & Mary’s last win against High Point came in 1999 in a 61-59 result. The Tribe has won two of the last seven matchups in the series.
Finishing as the CAA Regular Season Champions, North Carolina A&T earned a bid to the WBIT and will face No.1 Virginia Tech in the tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m. from Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
A&T finished the season 19-11, with a 15-3 record in conference play as the Aggies won the regular season title in their third year as conference members. A&T spent significant time ranked in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll this season under the leadership of CAA Coach of the Year Tarrell Robinson. The Aggies will make their eighth postseason appearance under Robinson, with three NCAA appearances, four WNITs, and now a WBIT bid. He is one win shy of his seventh 20-win season.
The Hokies lead the all-time series, 2-0. The last time the two teams played, the Hokies defeated A&T 58-39 on December 28, 2012, at Cassell Coliseum.
Campbell will battle Coastal Carolina in the first round of the WNIT at 6 p.m. on Thursday, streaming from Conway, S.C. on ESPN+.
The Camels finished as runners-up in the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship leading to their fourth postseason tournament appearance under head coach Ronny Fischer. For the fifth time in nine seasons, Campbell reached 20 wins helping earn four players CAA postseason honors including Gemma Nunez who picked up All-CAA Second Team and All-Defensive Team honors.
Campbell has a history with Coastal Carolina, with its last postseason win coming against the Canticleers in 2019 in the WBIT. Campbell has won five straight in the series. Coastal's last win came in the 2014-15 regular season, a 50-40 win over the Camels in Conway.
