Towson and Hampton Represented Amongst Women’s CAA Indoor Track and Field Major Award Winners

RICHMOND, Va. (April 3, 2025) – Two schools were represented in the 2024-25 CAA women’s Indoor Track and Field Major Awards, with both Hampton and Towson having recipients.
 
Hampton’s Maurice Pierce was recognized as the Coach of the Year and freshman Peninah Mutsiya was honored as Rookie of the Year for the Pirates while Towson junior Leeann Redlo was named Field Athlete of the Year and senior Piper Jons was named Track Athlete of the Year for the Tigers.
 
Redlo garnered CAA Most Outstanding Field Performer honors at the Indoor Championship after earning three All-CAA designations at the meet. She placed second in the pentathlon (3567) and high jump (1.78m) while taking third in the 60m hurdles (8.77). The junior from New York had even more postseason success at the ECAC Indoor Championships, setting the record in the high jump (1.80m) and finishing second in the 60m hurdles with an 8.69 pace. 
 
Jons was named the CAA’s Most Outstanding Track Performer honors at the Indoor Championship after winning three events at the meet. The senior sprinter’s most impressive performance came in the 400m when she posted a time of 52.31 to crack the nation’s top 30. She also took gold in the 200m (23.20) and was part of the Tigers’ winning 4X400 relay team. Jons went on to capture three ECAC Championship gold medals and was named the ECAC Most Most Outstanding Performer as the Tigers lifted the team title.
 
Mutsiya set a program record in the 3000m race with an 8:59.10 time at the Penn State National Open on Jan. 31, ranking 16th in the nation. At the CAA Championship Meet, the Kenyan distance runner won two events, first taking the crown in the 3000m with a CAA Record 9:16.47 performance, before earning gold in the 5000m with a program record 15:45.87 time. 
 
Pierce guided the Pirates to the first CAA title, across any sport, in Hampton’s history. The 26th-year head coach led the Pirates to a first-place finish with five podium performances (two first and three second) on the final day of action to earn Hampton 100 points.
