PRINCETON, N.J.  (May 10, 2025) –  Overpowered by 10 third-quarter goals, Towson (11-6) fell to No. 3 seeded Princeton (13-3) 22-12 in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon from Princeton, New Jersey.

Princeton heads to Hempstead, N, Y. to play the winner of Syracuse and Harvard’s matchup on Saturday, May 17.

Nate Kabiri and Tucker Wade poured in five goals each to lead Princeton, while Colin Burns (4) and Sean Cameron (3) combined for seven of their own. In the cage, Ryan Croddick impressed when his name was called on, making 12 saves.

Ronan Fitzpatrick was prolific, scoring four goals, including three in the first half, while Mikey Weisshaar and Alex Vieni each had two. Luke Downs kept Towson in the game for a majority of the first half with seven of his 11 saves coming before the halftime break.

Towson outshot the Tigers 46-42 and won the ground ball battle 37-35, however, Princeton dominated 23-16 from the faceoff X.

Princeton stretched out to an early 2-0 lead, but it was Downs who didn’t allow the Tigers to pull ahead even further with a couple of huge saves when the game was close. Towson found the scoresheet late in the first quarter when Princeton blew a clearance, allowing Chuck Matusek to drive into the open field and score.
The New Jersey program didn’t let the goal faze it, with Coulter Mackesy firing home the 164th goal of his collegiate career to move him first in Princeton’s all-time leaderboard. Down 4-1 heading into the second quarter, Towson answered first with Michael Katz scoring on the man-up unit with a beautiful feed from Weisshaar. Fitzpatrick fired the Tigers within one, driving one low and hard into the bottom right corner of the cage.

Locked down offensively, Weisshaar continued to play the provider, finding Chop Gallagher to notch Towson’s second man-up goal of the game to pull Towson within one before Vieni scored his first goal since Mar. 12 to level the contest. Fitzpatrick went on to have a first-half hat trick, but the Tigers headed into the break 11-7 after Princeton went on a 4-0 run.

Kabiri and Burns moved the game out of Towson’s reach in the third quarter with two goals each as Princeton pulled ahead 20-10. Both teams traded two goals in the fourth each as Princeton closed out the matchup with a win.
