CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Despite a valiant second half, Stony Brook (16-5) fell just short of an upset, falling 10-7 to second-seeded Boston College (18-2) in the Second Round of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship inside Alumni Stadium on Sunday.
The Seawolves held the nation’s No. 2 team to a season-low 10 goals in the setback. Furthermore, Stony Brook surrendered just three goals in the second half.
All-CAA First Team selection
Charlotte Wilmoth and fellow attacker
Courtney Maclay registered two goals apiece in the effort. Maclay, who scored six goals in the team’s opening match against Loyola Maryland, finished the weekend with eight goals and an assist.
The second-seeded Eagles scored six unanswered goals to open the contest, including a hat trick from Emma LoPinto.
Stony Brook broke through with just under five minutes to play in the opening half.
Casey Colbert ran a give-and-go with Wilmoth at the side of the cage, seeing the latter wide-open in front and firing a turnaround shot on the doorstep for the team’s first goal of the contest.
The Seawolves found the back of the net again nearly two minutes later as Maclay drew a triple-team coverage and found a streaking
Olivia Schorr in the slot, who netted just her third goal of the season, to pull Stony Brook to within four, 6-2.
Despite being down 7-2 at the break, Stony Brook was highly successful on the draw, winning 7-of-10 in the center circle.
CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player
Kylee Budke opened the second-half scoring and sparked the Seawolves offensively. The sophomore midfielder earned the free position opportunity and lasered a shot past BC goalkeeper Shea Dolce’s right shoulder to pull within four, 7-3, at 12:34.
After a Boston College retaliation goal, Stony Brook’s Colbert threaded a perfect cross-crease pass to Wilmoth in front for the finish, slashing the Seawolves’ deficit to four, 8-4. Shortly after, Maclay drove hard through traffic and beat Tewaaraton Finalist Dolce at the near post to make it a three-goal game with 41 seconds remaining in the third.
The Seawolves continued to pour it on in the fourth as
Haydin Eisfeld registered the team’s third straight goal just 2:11 into the frame. Colbert broke down the right side and drew two extra defenders before dishing the ball to the cutting sophomore for the strike, pulling Stony Brook within two, 8-6.
After BC’s Rachel Clark completed her hat trick with 4:27 to play that put the Eagles back up three. Stony Brook responded with goalkeeper
Natalia Altebrando making a massive save on Clark, turning the Seawolves in the other direction. Maclay reeled in a pass from Molly LaForge before ripping a shot into the upper 90 at the far post to make it a two-goal game, 9-7, with just 2:03 to play.
Boston College’s Clark netted her game-high fourth goal with under a minute to play, sealing the victory for the Eagles.
