Rain Delays Didn’t Stop William & Mary and Elon From Taking A Day One Lead at the 2025 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 14, 2024) – Three weather delays didn’t stop William & Mary and Elon from taking first place on the first day of the 2025 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship from Marcus T. Johnson Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T on Wednesday. 


As a result of the delays, the men’s hammer event will be resumed on Thursday morning at 9 a.m., while the women’s pole vault has been rescheduled for later that day at 9:30 a.m.


William & Mary shot up to the top of the men’s rankings after day one with a CAA-high 49 points. The Tribe won the steeplechase while cracking the top four in two other events - javelin and long jump. Stellar in the field events, Monmouth garnered 46 points to claim second, while UNCW finished the day with 28 tallies to its name.


After a strong finish to the day, Elon completed Wednesday as the leader with 44 points thanks to taking second and third in the 10000m and first in the hammer throw. Hampton (29), William & Mary (28), Delaware (27), and Monmouth (25) all sit in a tightly congested standings, having each claimed multiple podium finishes throughout the day.
 

Men’s 10,000 Meters

Last year’s champion was at it again as Hofstra’s Abraham Longosiwa walked away with a gold medal for the second straight year, all while breaking his championship meet record in the process (29:33.48). Northeastern’s Nico Boyle won the silver medal with a 30:31.31 finish, while Stony Brook’s Henry Gartner took bronze at 30:36.73.
 

Women’s 10,000 Meters

Hampton’s Peninah Mutsiya claimed the Pirates' lone gold medal of the day with a 34:36.35 finish in the 10000m event. Two Phoenix found the podium with Mikayla Jones (34:37.19) taking second and Madison Synowiec’s  (34:43.47) performance earning third. 
 

Women’s Hammer Throw

Adriana Clarke won Elon’s second-ever CAA Championship in the hammer throw, hurling the weight 55.94m. Vanessa Wood found the podium for Monmouth with a 54.14m toss, with Delaware’s Mackenzie Stephens throwing the hammer 53.47m to grab the last podium spot.
 

Men’s Javelin 

UNCW’s Miles Higgins collected his first CAA Championship Gold Medal with a 63.73m toss - outthrowing the field by over 10m. William & Mary’s Alex Ust came second with a 53.57m throw, while Monmouth’s Tyler Cappadona was centimeters behind at 53.48m.
 

Women’s Javelin

UNCW continued its early afternoon success with Jordyn Robbins snagging the gold medal with a 42.73m performance. Delaware claimed the last two podium spots with Morgan Reiner (42.59m) coming in second, followed by fellow Blue Hen Rachel Schmitt (39.39m).
 

Women’s Long Jump 

Rett Schnoor won Monmouth the long jump event with a 5.94m leap. Elon’s Lizzie Lopez pr’ed with a 5.92m performance for second place, whilst William and Mary’s Lauren Jones earned third after jumping 5.80m.


Men’s Long Jump 

UNCW went one-two as Bryson Robinson moved into the nation’s top-65 with his 7.53m winning leap while Ivan Poag was closely behind him at 7.16m for second place. Monmouth Ahmad Brock found the podium with a 7.15m mark.
 

Women’s 3000m Steeplechase 

Two athletes podiumed with a personal-best performance, but it was William & Mary’s Catherine Garrison who took the event with a 10:20.24 time. Charleston’s Savannah Stoutt (10:33.84) and Monmouth’s Kristen Sarnicola (10:44.52) both had career performances to take second and third, respectively.
 

Men’s 3000m Steeplechase

William & Mary’s Collin Walsh (9:00.48) was the steeplechase champion while Monmouth’s Gavin Rossi (9:07.33) and Niko Ferrante (9:08.76) rounded out the podium, taking home 14 points for the Hawks.


Men’s Pole Vault 

Reagan Wise earned Campbell’’s first podium finish of the day, taking first in the pole vault after clearing 5.13m. The Indoor Champion, Monmouth’s Dalton Yeust, placed second with a 5.03m performance, while last year’s champion and fellow Hawk Jan Volkmar came third at 4.78m.
