Elon Wins Fourth CAA Women's Track & Field Title In Five Years

FINAL RESULTS 

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 15, 2025) – Elon took home the CAA Women’s Track & Field Championship for the fourth time in the past five years behind a dominant effort from its distance runners on Thursday at the Marcus T. Johnson Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
 
The Phoenix finished with 147 points to hold off second-place Hampton (122 points) and host North Carolina A&T (102 points). Towson and William & Mary were tied for fourth with 86 points, followed by Monmouth (81.5), Delaware (73), Northeastern (62.5), UNCW (42), Charleston (13), Campbell (3), Stony Brook (1) and Hofstra.
 
Towson’s Cristal Cuervo was chosen as the Women’s Outstanding Track Performer following victories in the 200 meters and 400 meters and a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay. Hampton’s Danielle James was selected as the Women’s Outstanding Field Performer after finishing second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.


 
Women’s Pole Vault
Lakeyln Bass won the event for UNCW clearing 4.00m on the pole, while William & Mary took the final two podium spots through Elizabeth Strobach (3.90m) and Olesya Sitkowski (3.90m).
 
Women’s 4x100m Relay
Competing in the second heat, North Carolina A&T knew it had some work to do to earn gold and did just that, setting the CAA record with a 44.42 performance. The Aggies’ team of Pebbles Scott, Lucheyona Weaver, Hayleigh Bryant and Makenna Urbanek had some separation from second place with Towson’s 45.14 mark coming in second and Northeastern taking third at 45.23.
 
Women’s Shot Put
North Carolina A&T’s Julieth Nwosu captured gold in the shot put with a throw of 15.65m. Taking second was Delaware’s Emarie Jackson (15.57m) and third place went to Monmouth’s Julie Thomas (15.07m).
 
Heptathlon 
Elon’s Lizzie Lopez was the top finisher in the heptathlon, compiling 4,959 points. Close behind was Leeann Redlo of Towson (4,884 points), and Delaware’s Sara Manson placed third (4,677 points).
 
Women’s 1500 Meters
Elon went one-two earning a come-from behind victory through Quinn Smith (4:23.42) to take first in the event. Her teammate Sarah Petitjean was a step behind with a 4:23.69 finish, while William & Mary’s Kyra Holland earned bronze at 4:23.96.
 
Women’s 100m Hurdles
Lucheyona Weaver cruised to a 13.26 finish to take first place in the event for A&T, continuing a strong day on the track for the Aggies. Monmouth’s Yasmeen Tinsley was right behind with a 13.49 pace while the Aggies’  Zamia Stelly took third at 13.96.
 
Women’s High Jump
North Carolina A&T’s Spirit Morgan posted the best performance in the high jump at the CAA Championship since 1992, clearing the bar at 1.85m. Monomouth’s Veronica Chaynov was second (1.82m) and third place went to Northeastern’s Camryn Cole (1.79m).
 
Women’s 400 Meters
Towson’s Cristal Cuervo set a new PR with a 52.85 finish to earn first place for the Tigers. Two other programs were represented on the podium with William & Mary’s Emily Ervin (54.07) and UNCW’s Nasiah Ferguson (54.44) earning a spot.
 
Women’s 100 Meters
Maya Tucker took the race for Towson by fractions of a second, running 11.46 compared to second-place Savannah Blair’s 11.50 time for Northeastern. Makenna Urbanek claimed third for A&T at 11.59.
 
Women’s Triple Jump
Olivia Dowd took the event for North Carolina A&T with an impressive 12.70m leap. Hampton’s Danielle James pr’ed with her 12.46 performance to claim second, while Kiara Murray’s 12.20m mark was good for third for Towson.
 
Women’s 800 Meters
Jordan Mozie claimed the top spot for Hampton running a 2:06.92 race. Elon’s Shayla Cann notched a personal best with her 2:07.89 time for second place, while Delaware’s Kadence Dumas’ time was good for third at 2:08.80.
 
Women’s Discus
Delaware’s Olamide Ayeni was the CAA champion in the discus with a throw of 52.53m. Hampton earned the other two podium spots with Damali Williams in second (50.69m) and Rochele Solomon in third (47.16m).
 
Women’s 400m Hurdles
Monmouth’s Yasmeen Tinsley cracked the country’s top-30 with her winning 57.34 time. Hampton’s Carmen PenaSota had a personal-best 59.62 performance for second while Towson’s Spencer Settle also pr’ed at 59.67 for third.
 
Women’s 200 Meters
Cristal Cuervo heard her name called again as a gold medalist, taking first with a 23.62 finish for Towson. Northeastern’s Savannah Blair came in second with a 23.69 finish, while Towson’s Maya Tucker placed third at 23.83.
 
Women’s 5000 Meters
Elon won the meet with three podium finishes in the 5000m race. Mikayla Jones captured gold for the Phoenix at 16:52.74, followed by her teammates Madison Synowiec (16:56.19) and Mariana Martinez (17:40.79).
 
Women’s 4x400m Relay 
Hampton closed the competition by winning gold in the 4X400 relay as the team of Dejah Grant, Morgan Pruitt, Arriah Gilmer and Jordan Mozie finished in 3:37.72. Towson was close behind in second (3:38.31) and William & Mary was third (3:44.61).
