Elon Ends 2025 Campaign Against Virginia
Dylan Smith
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Elon softball team saw its memorable 2025 campaign come to an end on Saturday evening after falling to Virginia, 12-0, inside Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
The Phoenix found themselves down 1-0 after just two pitches, seeing the Cavaliers’ Jade Hylton go deep in the opening frame. Elon nearly tied the game in the opening frame, loading the bases with two outs after a walk to
Kaitlyn Wells and back-to-back singles from
Chloe Hatzopoulos and
Gabi Schaal. Virginia worked its way out of trouble to maintain a one-run lead.
Elon’s
Anna Dew came on in relief with one out in the second inning and settled in immediately. After a throwing miscue in the infield, Dew retired eight straight Cavaliers through the fourth frame, including three on strikes.
Virginia registered a pair of frames with five-plus runs late in the game before closing out the victory.
The Phoenix finished with a 33-21 record on the season.
