BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A strong offensive showing lifted fourth-seeded Campbell to a 13-7 victory over No. 5 seed Stony Brook in the opening game of the 2025 CAA Softball Championship.

Catcher Madison Ford and outfielder Charlie Montgomery registered three RBIs apiece in the win. Five different Camels registered multi-run outings on Wednesday, including three tallies from Tyra Parker.

Stony Brook (25-24) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after capitalizing on a Camels’ miscue, seeing Kyra McFarland and Alyssa Costello cross home plate in the opening frame.

Campbell (35-18) quickly responded with a four-spot in the home half of the first, starting with a Ford RBI ground-rule double to left-center. After another RBI base knock from Amber DeSena, sophomore infielder Livie Davis laced an RBI single up the middle to take a 4-2 lead.

The Camels continued to add to their lead with a four-run bottom of the second. Following a successful designed steal attempt with runners on first and third brought Alyssa Armijo around to score, Montgomery slapped an RBI single up the middle to give Campbell a 6-2 advantage. The Camels loaded the bases with back-to-back walks before Davis was hit by a pitch to knock in a run. Two pitches later, Hailey Krebs legged out an infield single to bring Armijo in to score for an 8-2 edge.

After the Camels added another run in the bottom of the third, Stony Brook pulled to within three with one swing of the bat. Senior Alyssa Costello turned on a 2-1 offering and launched a grand slam over the right field fence to slash the Seawolves’ deficit, 9-6.

Campbell reclaimed a five-run lead in the bottom of the fourth, seeing a bases-loaded walk to Ford and another RBI single from Montgomery to go up, 11-6. The Camels continued to bolster their lead on a run-producing groundout from Parker and an RBI double by Hannah Cornetto to take a 13-6 advantage.

Stony Brook’s leading hitter Kyra McFarland chipped away at the fourth seed’s lead with an RBI poke through the right side to bring Naiah Ackerman around to score,13-7. The duo both scored twice in the contest.

Reliever Cassidi Baroni came on in the seventh and retired the side in order to secure the victory for Campbell.
