RICHMOND, Va. (May 9, 2025) – Ten-time CAA men’s lacrosse champion Towson (11-5) will look to bookmark its 17th NCAA tournament appearance with a win when it travels to No. 3 seeded Princeton (12-3) in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday from Princeton, N.J.
Slated for a 2:30 p.m. faceoff, the matchup will be televised on ESPNU, with the winner set to play Saturday, May 17, against the winner of No.6 Syracuse and Harvard’s battle.
Towson has faced off against Princeton just three times in the program's history, all coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers from New Jersey lead the series 2-1, with the last meeting coming in the 2001 NCAA Tournament Semifinals, with Princeton winning 12-11. The CAA Champion’s last win against Princeton came in 1991.
With a 13-10 win over Drexel in the CAA Championship game, the Tigers won back-to-back conference titles, becoming the first program to do so since Delaware recorded the feat in 2023. It's Towson's first time winning back-to-back CAA Tournaments since tallying three straight from 2015-17 After starting the season 1-4, Towson has turned it around, piecing together a 10-game win streak dating back to Mar. 15. The stretch is the longest in the Tigers’ DI history and surpasses a nine-game win streak from last season.
The reigning CAA Champs are led by unanimous CAA Offensive Player of the Year and the Championship’s Most Outstanding Player, Mikey Weisshaar, whose 46 goals this season are the 10th-most in the nation. The recent USA Lacrosse Third Team All-American also cracks the country's top-15 with 4.53 points per game.
Alongside Weisshaar, two Tigers were tabbed USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable mentions with senior defender Joe Petro and graduate student attacker and midfielder Chop Gallagher collecting honors.
Two other major award winners sit inside the Tigers’ locker room, with Shawn Nadelen being named Co-CAA Coach of the Year, and Ronan Fitzpatrick being selected as the unanimous Rookie of the Year. Nadelen guided Towson to another undefeated conference season, winning its last 18 CAA games, while Fitzpatrick dominated on the offensive end, sitting third in the conference with 39 goals and third with 3.33 points per game.
