CAA Football Weekly Awards - Sept. 15

RICHMOND, Va. (September 15, 2025) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 3 of the 2025 season. Stony Brook graduate quarterback Chris Zellous was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week while Rhode Island sophomore linebacker Moses Meus received Defensive Player of the Week honors. North Carolina A&T graduate kicker Andrew Brown and Elon senior punter Jeff Yurk shared Special Teams Player of the Week accolades and Elon freshman quarterback Landen Clark repeated as Rookie of the Week.

CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Chris Zellous, Gr., QB, Stony Brook (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley)
 
Zellous accumulated 313 yards of offense and four touchdowns as Stony Brook rolled past Fordham, 41-18. The grad student completed 21-of-28 passes (75%) for a career-high 260 yards and 3 TD’s and added 53 yards and a TD on the ground. Zellous is the first SBU quarterback since 2013 to record at least three passing TD’s and a rushing TD in a game.
 
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Moses Meus, So., LB, Rhode Island (Pawtucket, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy)
 
Meus led a dominant effort from the Rhode Island defense, recording a team-high seven tackles and a sack as the Rams edged Holy Cross, 9-7. Five of the linebacker’s seven stops resulted in plays of three yards or less and he recorded one of URI’s five second-half sacks as they kept HC scoreless over the final 30 minutes. URI held HC to 229 total yards.
 
CAA Football Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
Andrew Brown, Gr., PK, North Carolina A&T (Lexington, N.C./West Davidson)
 
Brown played a big role in North Carolina A&T’s 33-30 double-overtime win over Hampton. With the Aggies down three in the final minute, he executed a perfect onsides kick that A&T recovered and then drilled a game-tying 37-yard field goal with 19 seconds to go. Brown also made a 49-yard field goal and was 3-for-3 on extra points, including one in overtime.
 
CAA Football Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
Jeff Yurk, Sr., P, Elon (Southern Pines, N.C./Pinecrest)
 
Yurk set a program record by averaging 55.2 yards on six punts in Elon’s 37-31 win at Western Carolina. Five of the senior’s six punts went over 50 yards, including a career-long 74-yard boot. The punting average is the third-best in FCS this season and he leads the nation with a 51.4 average for the season.
 
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Landen Clark, Fr., QB, Elon (Radford, Va./Radford)
 
Clark accounted for 377 yards of offense and four touchdowns in Elon’s 37-31 road win at Western Carolina. The redshirt freshman passed for 305 yards and 2 TD’s and rushed for a team-high 72 yards and 2 TD’s, including a game-winning 10-yard scoring run with 4:53 to play as the Phoenix beat WCU for the first time since 2013.
