CAA Football Stays At The Forefront Of Technology With New Initiatives For The 2025 Season

RICHMOND, Va. (September 17, 2025) – A new season has brought additional initiatives to keep CAA Football at the forefront of technology among FCS conferences.
For the first time, CAA Football coaches will be able to communicate directly with players on the field through the use of wireless receivers in the helmets. The conference begins its second year of using tablets on the sideline, which allows coaches and players to immediately review in-game video. CAA Football has also expanded its partnership with DVSport, becoming the only FCS conference to make use of new software that provides a new platform for foul reporting, evaluation and training for game officials.
“CAA Football takes great pride in making use of the latest technology to enhance communication between coaches and players as well as providing video on the field for in-game adjustments,” CAA Commissioner Joe D’Antonio said. “The technology also allows us to strengthen our officiating program by providing replays during the game and through evaluation after the game. We appreciate our partnerships with CoachComm, Sky Coach and DVSport and the commitment by our institutions to invest in these upgrades.”
Coach-to-Player Communication
CAA Football has selected CoachComm to provide its Coach-to-Player (C2P) Communication. The new CoachComm X-System Player communication allows one or more coaches to communicate directly with student-athletes on the field via wireless receivers worn in the helmets. X-System Player Communication is fully integrated into the full line of X-System products and features exceptional audio, a familiar X-System interface, and complete field coverage. Combined, the X-System headset communication and the new X-System Player communication create a powerful pair for any team seeking the ultimate competitive advantage by enhancing real-time strategic adjustments and increasing speed and accuracy in play-calling.
“CoachComm is proud to partner with CAA Football to deliver seamless communication for both coaches and players,” said Peter Amos, President of CoachComm. “We value our strong relationship with the CAA and its member institutions, and we look forward to providing a truly unique experience with our X-System and X-System Player platform, empowering our customers with innovative, reliable communication solutions.”
In-Game Video
CAA Football enters its second season using Sky Coach as In-Game Video (IGV) provider. The NCAA approved the use of sideline tablet technology prior to the start of the 2024 season, and through this partnership, Sky Coach has equipped CAA Football teams with IGV technology. This technology has provided coaches and student-athletes with in-game, multi-angle footage and instant replay capabilities, enabling them to review film on the sidelines & make better adjustments in real-time.
“We’re excited to continue the partner with CAA Football to deliver an IGV system that meets the competitive demands of Division I football,” said Keith Simpson, CEO of Sky Coach. “Our shared coach replay platform is designed for speed, reliability, and simplicity—empowering coaches to make timely, informed decisions on game day.”
Foul Reporting and Evaluation
CAA Football has expanded its technology partnership with DVSport with the implementation of a new Foul and Evaluation Software. The DVSport OPS Software is a foul data collection, assessment, and reporting platform that assists the Conference with evaluation and training of the game officials. CAA Football is the only FCS conference, and one of four nationally, to use the OPS Software. CAA Football has been using DVSport for its Instant Replay solution since 2015 and implemented a sideline monitor in 2023.
"The CAA is one of the FCS Conferences that moves forward with technological advances for their officials as soon as they become available," said DVSport Chief Strategic Officer Keith Lowe.
