Rhode Island 31, Stony Brook 17
Box Score


Antwain Littleton, Jr. ran for 122 yards, including a 15-yard TD with 2:09 remaining, as Rhode Island rallied for 31-17 road victory at Stony Brook. URI quarterback Devin Farrell passed for 316 yards and 2 TD’s.

Stony Brook jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 22-yard Enda Kirby field goal and a 1-yard TD run by Roland Dempster. However, the Rams answered with 24 points in the second quarter as Farrell tossed scoring passes to Marquis Buchanan (12 yards) and Littleton (1 yard) and Leisaan Hibbert had a 30-yard pick six. The Seawolves pulled within seven on a 3-yard TD run by quarterback Chris Zellous with 11:28 to go before Littleton ended a 70-yard drive with his 15-yard run.

Greg Gaines had five catches for 95 yards for URI, while SBU’s Dempster finished with 167 yards on 28 carries. A.J. Pena had 10 tackles and a sack for the Rams and Chayce Chalmers made 10 stops for the Seawolves.

William & Mary 28, Maine 27

Rashad Raymond’s 1-yard scoring run with 3:11 to go lifted William & Mary past Maine, 28-27.

Maine went ahead 14-0 early as quarterback Carter Peevy threw a 1-yard TD pass to Sincere Baines and then found the end zone on a 45-yard run. The Tribe fought back to go ahead 21-17 midway through the third period as Tyler Hughes fired scoring passes to Deven Thompson (23 yards) and Sean McElwain (6 yards) followed by a Josh Miller 2-yard TD run. The Black Bears responded with a 2-yard TD catch by Scott Woods and a 22-yard Samuel Tremblay field goal to take a 27-21 advantage with 7:09 remaining. W&M put together a 65-yard drive capped by Raymond’s run and then got an interception from Jalen Jones with 2:28 on the clock.

Hughes passed for 129 yards and 2 TD’s and ran for 73 yards, while Peevy passed for 97 yards and 2 TD’s and rushed for 98 yards and a TD. Luke Banbury had 16 tackles for W&M and broke up the pass that led to Jones’ interception.

Bryant 27, UMass 26

Bryce Soli booted a game-winning 25-yard field goal as time expired as Bryant defeated UMass, 27-26, to record its first victory ever on an FBS opponent. Bulldogs’ quarterback Brennan Myer passed for 318 yards and three touchdowns and guided a 78-yard drive in the final 1:35 to set up the winning score.

Bryant trailed 20-3 in the second quarter, but Myer tossed scoring passes to Zyheem Collick (9 yards) and Elijah Elliott (43 yards) before finding Collick again on a 72-yard scoring strike to put the Bulldogs on top 24-23 late in the third quarter. After UMass kicked a 53-yard field goal with 4:11 to play, Myer put together the winning drive. Brandon Perkins recorded 14 tackles and 2.0 TFL’s for the Bryant defense.

Monmouth 49, Fordham 28

Derek Robertson passed for 342 yards and six touchdowns – four of them to Josh Derry – and added another on the ground as Monmouth rolled over Fordham, 49-28. The Hawks finished with 470 yards of offense.

Robertson threw TD passes of 29 and 67 yards to Derry and a 22-yarder to TJ Speight to go up 21-14 after the opening quarter. The Rams closed within 34-28 early in the third quarter, but Robertson put the game away with a 1-yard TD run and a 3-yard pass to Derry in the final period. Derry finished with 10 catches for 144 yards and Rodney Nelson added 113 yards rushing. Defensively, Ryan Russo had eight tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception.

New Hampshire 19, Holy Cross 16

Nick Reed booted four field goals, highlighted by a game-winning 40-yarder as time expired, as New Hampshire battled past Holy Cross, 19-16.

UNH took an early 7-6 advantage on a 53-yard TD pass from wide receiver Caleb Burke to Josh Fillion. Reed hit field goals of 33 and 30 yards to put the Wildcats ahead, 13-9, in the third quarter and added a 50-yarder that tied the contest at 16-16 with 9:13 remaining. After HC missed a field goal with 1:40 to go, UNH drove into position for Reed’s game-winner. UNH quarterback Matt Vezza threw for 129 yards and ran for 46. Trevor Barry made nine tackles for a UNH defense that held HC to 251 yards.

Towson 27, Morgan State 22

John Dunmore’s 18-yard touchdown catch with 28 seconds left gave Towson a 27-22 victory over Morgan State to capture the Battle for Greater Baltimore.

The Tigers used big plays to grab a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter, scoring on a 96-yard kickoff return by Lukkas Londono and a 66-yard pick six by Myles Brodie. Trailing 22-21 with 4:22 to go, Towson put together a 14-play, 65-yard drive capped by Andrew Indorf’s pass to Dunmore. Indorf threw for 186 yards with Dunmore making six grabs for 67 yards.

Villanova 24, Colgate 17

Lucas Kopecky caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from Pat McQuaide with 52 seconds left in the third quarter to lift Villanova to a 24-17 season-opening win over Colgate. McQuaide finished 18-of-28 passing for 299 yards and a TD in his Wildcats’ debut.

VU took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter following TD runs of 1 yard by Isaiah Ragland and 28 yards by McQuaide. Colgate battled back to tie the game at 17-17 in the third quarter before the big play to Kopecky. It was VU’s 17th straight home victory.

Elon 55, Davidson 7

Elon sprinted out a 41-0 halftime lead and cruised over Davidson, 55-7. The Phoenix finished with 547 yards of offense and held Davidson to 158.

Quarterback Landen Clark had a 1-yard TD run on Elon’s opening drive and followed with scoring passes of 22 and 44 yards to Landyn Backey to make it 24-0 midway through the second quarter. Clark finished with 247 yards and 3 TD’s passing with Backey making five catches for 118 yards. Brodie Carroll had five tackles, 2.5 TFL’s and a forced fumble.

Hampton 27, Elizabeth City State 20

Ja’Quan Snipes broke loose for a 47-yard game-winning touchdown run with 39 seconds left as Hampton got past Elizabeth City State, 27-20.

The Pirates trailed 20-10 late in the third quarter but got a 5-yard TD run by Snipes and a 30-yard field goal from Brett Starling that tied the game with 5:21 to go. That set the stage for the game-winning run by Snipes, who finished with 174 yards on 18 carries. MJ Moultrie made 10 tackles for the Pirates.

Delaware State 37, UAlbany 32

Delaware State returned from a lengthy weather delay to score a game-winning touchdown with 34 seconds left as the Hornets edged UAlbany, 37-32. The Great Danes trailed 31-20 in the fourth quarter but quarterback Jack Shields threw scoring passes to Carter Moses (17 yards) and Steven Mahar, Jr. (6 yards) make it 32-31 with 4:38 remaining.

Shields finished with five touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground. Defensively, Ibrahim Sanogo recorded three sacks.

East Carolina 56, Campbell 3

Campbell quarterback Kamden Sixkiller completed 18-of-25 passes for 121 yards, but East Carolina tallied 535 yards and posted a 56-3 win over the Camels.

ECU jumped out to a 14-0 advantage before Campbell got on the board on a 29-yard field goal by Alex Crabb early in the second quarter. The Pirates expanded their advantage to 35-3 at the half and kept Campbell scoreless in the second half. Semaj Jackson had a team-high seven tackles for the Camels.

UCF 68, North Carolina A&T 7

Shimique Blizzard rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, but North Carolina A&T was beaten 68-7 at UCF. The Knights put 28 points on the board in the first quarter and were in control after that.

The Aggies got its lone score late in the fourth quarter, putting together a 75-yard drive capped by Blizzard’s 17-yard run for a score. UCF finished with 560 total yards and held A&T to 200. Ty Williams, Jr. had six tackles for A&T.
