RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 22, 2026) – Two-time reigning CAA Men’s Lacrosse Champion, Towson, was chosen as the preseason favorite in 2026 in a vote by the league’s head coaches. For the second-straight season, Towson senior Mikey Weisshaar was chosen as the CAA men's lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year.

Towson was selected as the unanimous favorite, receiving six first-place votes and 36 points from its six competitors. Fairfield earned one first-place vote to take the second spot with 30 points. Drexel (25 points) and Hofstra (20 points) were third and fourth in the voting, followed by Stony Brook (18 points), Monmouth (12 points) and Hampton (6 points), rounding out the seven-team conference.

Weisshaar excelled in his third season with the Tigers, earning him Preseason Player of the Year accolades for the second-straight season. The 2025 CAA Offensive Player of the Year dominated on offense, leading the conference in goals (48) and points per game (4.5). Selected as a consensus Third Team All-American from all three major lacrosse organizations (USILA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse), Weisshaar will look to build on a season that saw him become Towson’s first Tewaaraton Trophy nominee since 2019.

Six of the seven teams across the conference were represented on the Preseason All-CAA team, with Fairfield having a conference-high four representatives. Drexel, Monmouth, and Hofstra each had three selections, while Stony Brook and Towson had two apiece.

Towson is coming off its second-consecutive undefeated conference season, finishing 11-6 and claiming back-to back CAA Tournament titles. Shawn Nadelen’s program battled back after a 1-5 start in 2025 to carry a program-record 10-game win streak into a second-straight NCAA Tournament. Towson hit the back of the cage an impressive 209 times, second most in the CAA, while leading the conference in man-up scoring percentage (.438). The Tigers have finished top-15 nationally in each of the last two years.

Fairfield spent a majority of last season in the national rankings, coming in as high as No. 12. Finishing the 2025 campaign with a 12-3 record, Andrew Baxter’s squad tied the program record for wins in a season. The Stags were also 8-0 at home, marking their first undefeated home season since a shortened 2020 season. Led by the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Year Julian Radossich, Fairfield allowed the fewest goals in the CAA with 139.

Drexel advanced to the conference championship game in 2025 under the leadership of first-year head coach Steve Boyle. With an 8-8 record, the Dragons played for CAA hardware for the first time since 2021, thanks largely to a 4-1 run leading up to the championship game. Conor Hooley returns to Philadelphia after leading the Dragons with 20 assists as part of a team-high .307 points per game.

The 2026 CAA men’s lacrosse season begins Jan. 31, with the top four teams in the conference qualifying for the CAA Championship on April 30 and May 2.
