Jasmine Nivar are the CAA women’s basketball weekly award winners for the week ending on January 4.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taryn Barbot, Charleston
Junior | Guard | Floral Park, N.Y. / St. Mary
Barbot claimed her third CAA Player of the Week honor after stuffing the stat sheet with 26.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 4.5 apg. The reigning conference Player of the Year drove Charleston to a 2-0 start in conference play, starting with a 72-55 victory over Hofstra. The Floral Park, N.Y. native had a game-high 24 points to go along with seven boards and six assists. Then, in Charleston’s 85-58 win over Northeastern, Barbot poured in eight treys for 29 points.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gigi Gamble, Monmouth
Junior | Guard | Somerset, N.J. / Life Center Academy
Gamble had a career week as Monmouth went 3-0 to extend its win streak to seven straight. The junior guard opened conference play with a career-high 30 points on a personal-best six 3-pointers in the 77-62 win over Elon. Gamble followed that performance up with a 25-point showing in a narrow 61-55 victory over N.C. A&T. The New Jersey native also had 27 points in the Hawks’ non-conference finale against Georgian Court.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jasmine Nivar, Campbell
Freshman | Guard | Apex, N.C. / Apex Friendship HS
Nivar went back-to-back as CAA Rookie of the Week after averaging 15.5 points across 35.5 minutes of action. In the 62-51 win over Drexel, the four-time conference Rookie of the Week had 15 points to go alongside a career-high five assists and four boards. Against Towson, the Apex, N.C. resident had a team-best 16 points. Nivar also chipped in with five rebounds, three assists, and a block.
