CAA Football Weekly Awards - Oct. 5

RICHMOND, Va. (October 5, 2026) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 5 of the 2026 season. Elon freshman running back Kamerin McDowell-Moore was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week while Sacred Heart junior linebacker Myles Hamilton earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Rhode Island senior kicker Ty Groff and UAlbany junior running back/returner Rahshan La Mons shared Special Teams Player of the Week honors and Monmouth freshman defensive back/linebacker Amori McNeil was named Rookie of the Week.
 
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Kamerin McDowell-Moore, Fr., RB, Elon (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro)
McDowell-Moore rushed for a career-high 273 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries (9.4 ypc) in Elon’s 30-23 setback at UNH. The 273 yards were the second-most by any FCS player this season and the most by a Phoenix player since 2017. The freshman, who ranks 5th in FCS with 754 rushing yards, had TD runs of five and 40 yards in the game.

CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Myles Hamilton, Jr., OLB, Sacred Heart (Linden, N.J./Linden)
Hamilton tallied seven tackles, a career-high two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in Sacred Heart’s 24-16 win at Maine. The junior led a Pioneers’ defense that held the Black Bears to 259 total yards and one touchdown as they rallied from a nine-point deficit. Hamilton leads SHU with 39 stops and 7.5 TFL’s for the season.

CAA Football Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
Ty Groff, Sr., PK, Rhode Island (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan)
Groff booted a pair of 43-yard field goals, including the game-winner with 11 seconds to go, as Rhode Island edged Brown, 13-10, to claim the Governor’s Cup. The senior’s first 43-yarder just before halftime gave the Rams a 3-0 lead before delivering the kick that snapped a 10-10 tie. The FG’s were his longest of the season.

CAA Football Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
Rahshan La Mons, Jr., RB/PR, UAlbany (Smyrna, Del./Tatnall School)
La Mons had three punt returns for 104 yards (34.7 avg), two of which set up touchdowns, in UAlbany’s 28-7 win over Delaware State. The junior’s 25-yard return in second quarter to the DSU 16 set up his own 2-yard TD run. In the fourth quarter, his 69-yard return to the DSU 26 led to another score. La Mons tallied 156 all-purpose yards and 2 TD’s.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Amori McNeil, Fr., DB/LB, Monmouth (Brooklyn, N.Y./Don Bosco)
McNeil recorded a 71-yard pick six that snapped a 24-24 tie in the fourth quarter of Monmouth’s 41-40 victory over Towson. With the Tigers driving in MU territory, McNeil snared a deflected pass and made the 2nd-longest return in the CAA this season. The interception was the first of his career and first pick six by a MU freshman since 2023. He added three tackles.
