CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - FEB. 16
RICHMOND, Va. (February 16, 2026) – Elon junior outfielder

Lleyton Grubich was chosen as the CAA Pitcher of the Week. Monmouth freshman shortstop
Sam Saucke earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Vince Fattore, Elon – Jr., OF – Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Fattore batted .800 (4-5) with three doubles, a homer, three RBI’s and three runs scored in Elon’s three-game sweep of Delaware. After getting out in his opening at-bat on Saturday, the junior reached base the rest of the way. He delivered an RBI double in a 7-5 win in Saturday’s opener and followed with two doubles and a solo homer as Elon took the nightcap, 17-4. Fattore also walked twice and had a HBP.
CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Lleyton Grubich, Campbell – Jr., LHP – McHenry, Ill.
Grubich earned his first win of the season on opening night, limiting Cal Poly to one run on five hits over 5.2 innings in Campbell’s 5-2 triumph over the Mustangs. The left-hander struck out four and walked only one. He retired the first eight batters he faced and shut out the Mustangs over the first five frames.
CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Sam Saucke, Monmouth – Fr., SS – Rochester, N.Y.
Saucke batted .500 (6-12) with two doubles, a homer, four RBI’s and four runs scored in Monmouth’s three-game series at Richmond. In a 4-3 win on Friday, the freshman was 4-for-5 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot, including the game-winning run in the ninth. In the series finale, he opened the game with a homer and finished 2-for-3 with three walks and four RBI’s.
ELON, TOWSON WIN SERIES OPENERS
Elon swept a three-game series from former league foe Delaware and Towson took two-of-three at Norfolk State on the opening weekend. It was the first weekend series sweep for Elon since 2020, while Towson won its opening series for the first time since 2017. Charleston (Rutgers) and UNCW (Maryland) picked up a win over a Big Ten foe, while Campbell got a victory over a strong Cal Poly squad. Monmouth (Richmond) and North Carolina A&T (N. Illinois) also earned their first wins of the 2026 season.
LOOKING AHEAD
It’s another week of challenging games for CAA teams. Charleston heads to #6 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday and Stony Brook has a three-game weekend series at #5 Georgia Tech. Monmouth meets perennial power Virginia on Friday and Campbell hosts East Carolina on Tuesday before a weekend series at a Troy squad receiving votes in national polls. Northeastern continues to battle the Big Ten with a pair of games vs. Minnesota.
CAMPBELL CAMELS (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
• Campbell opened the season with a 5-2 win over Cal Poly before dropping a doubleheader on Saturday.
• Lleyton Grubich held Cal Poly to a run on five hits over 5.2 innings to earn a win in the opener. He struck out four and walked one.
• Jonah Oster batted .556 (5-9) vs. Cal Poly with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. He had at least one hit in all three games.
• Joey Morton hit .364 and scored twice in the series while Trent Rumley hit .333 and had four runs scored.
CHARLESTON COUGARS (1-3; 0-0 CAA)
• Charleston defeated Rutgers, 8-3, on Friday before losing the final three games of the series. The Cougars improved to 20-1 on Opening Day since 2006 and 9-0 under coach Chad Holbrook.
• Preseason All-America reliever Alex Lyon threw 4.2 scoreless innings out of the pen to get the win vs. Rutgers.He’s now 3rd in career appearances at CofC with 79.
• Brent Gibbs batted .400 (6-15) in the series with a double and two RBI’s. He also made 19 assists at second base.
• Ethan Plyler also hit .400 vs. Rutgers and drove in four.
ELON PHOENIX (3-0; 0-0 CAA)
• Elon recorded its first weekend series sweep since 2020 after taking three games from Delaware.
• The Phoenix batted .307 as a team and scored 37 runs. Vince Fattore batted .800 with three doubles and a homer vs. UD, while Jake Hajdu hit .333 with a double, homer and seven RBI’s, with six coming in the series finale.
• Elon got strong starts from a pair of grad transfer pitchers. Cole Hansen allowed three runs over 5.2 innings and Brian Strange held the Blue Hens to one run over 4.1 frames with six strikeouts.
HOFSTRA PRIDE (0-3; 0-0 CAA)
• The Pride played well despite an 0-3 mark at #4 Mississippi State. Hofstra was edged 6-5 in Friday’s opener and 7-5 in the series finale.
• Outfielder Nick Gallello batted .455 (5-11) at MSU. He had a hit in all three games, including a career-best three hits and three RBI’s on Friday.
• CJ Griggs homered in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader. The homers were the first two of his career.
• Carlos Martinez made a successful return from Tommy John surgery on Friday, striking out five in 3.2 innings of work.
MONMOUTH HAWKS (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
• The Hawks opened their season with a 4-3 victory at Richmond. Simmi Whitehill’s two-out bunt single in the ninth brought in the winning run.
• Freshman Sam Saucke went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored in his collegiate debut, and batted .500 for the series with a homer and four RBI”s.
• All-CAA pitcher Ryan Mealy provided a strong effort in Friday’s opener, allowing one run on four hits over 5.0 innings and striking out five.
N.C. A&T AGGIES (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
• The Aggies bounced back from a setback in the opener to beat Northern Illinois, 10-3, on Saturday.
• Outfielder Bruce Wyche led A&T to the win, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a two-run homer and a career-high six RBI’s.
• Marcus Bradshaw also excelled offensively, batting .444 (4-9) with a double, homer, three runs scored and three RBI’s.
• Four A&T pitchers combined to limit NIU to four hits in the win, with relievers Jordan Bright and Kobie Cushing each throwing 2.0 scoreless frames.
UNCW SEAHAWKS (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
• The Seahawks topped Maryland, 8-4, in the middle game of their 3-game set.
• Starter Cooper Allen gave up just two hits over 5.0 shutout innings and fanned five to get the win vs. the Terps. Freshman TJ Ziermann picked up the save by striking out four of the six batters he faced and escaping a two-on, one-out jam in the 8th.
• Infielder Kevin Jones was 5-for-9 with two doubles and three RBI’s in the first two games of the Maryland series.
• In addition to Allen, UNCW got strong starts from Connor Marshburn (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 K’s) and Bromley Thornton (4.1 IP, 2 ER, 4 K’s).
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (0-3; 0-0 CAA)
• The Huskies went 0-3 against a tough field at the MLB Desert Invitational, losing to Grand Canyon, Nebraska and Iowa.
• Infielder Carmelo Musacchia batted .500 (7-14) from the leadoff spot with three doubles and four runs scored. He had in all three games and stole four bases.
• Freshman Charlie Criscola smacked a three-run double in his first collegiate at-bat against Nebraska and went 2-for-5 against Iowa.
• NU plays its annual game against the Boston Red Sox on Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla.
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (0-3; 0-0 CAA)
• The Seawolves saw a 9th-inning rally fall short in a 9-8 loss in the opener at Arkansas State and finished 0-3 for the weekend.
• Aidyn Coffey led SBU offensively, hitting .444 (4-9) with a homer and two RBI’s. He had a pair of two-hit games.
• OF Nick Zampieron had a hit in all three games at ASU and batted .417 for the series.
• Micah Worley recorded six strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work in his first start at SBU, allowing two runs.
TOWSON TIGERS (2-1; 0-0 CAA)
• The Tigers claimed their first season-opening series since 2017, taking 2-of-3 at Norfolk State.
• Max D’Alessandro batted .462 with a double, homer, three RBI’s and six runs scored. He had a hit in all three games.
• IF Frank Adamski, Jr. hit .667 (6-9) with five RBI’s and Nich Francuzenko also drove in five in the series at NSU.
• Towson set a program record with a 15-run fifth inning on the way to a 28-4 victory in Saturday’s series finale.
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (0-3; 0-0 CAA)
• The Tribe went 0-3 at ACC foe Virginia Tech. W&M scored three in the 9th to grab a 7-6 lead in Saturday’s opener, but couldn’t hang on.
• IF Jamie Laskofski batted .364 in the VT series with two doubles, a homer and three RBI’s.
• Louie Bartletti hit .333 with a double against the Hokies and Trey Christman batted .308 with a homer and 3 RBI’s.
• Freshman Jack Pye fired 3.0 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut at VT, allowing just one hit.
