CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 23

RICHMOND, Va. (March 23, 2026) – Monmouth senior outfielder Nick Lovarco was chosen as the CAA baseball Player of the Week, while UNCW junior Connor Marshburn received CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. William & Mary freshman Jett Humphreys was selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week.

CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Nick Lovarco, Monmouth – Sr., OF – Wall Township, N.J.
Lovarco batted .714 (10-14) with a double, three homers, five runs scored and eight RBI’s in Monmouth’s four games. In the Hawks’ series win over Stony Brook, he hit .818 (9-11) while adding two walks and a HBP for a .857 on base percentage. Lovarco was 3-for-4 with two solo homers in a 10-2 win on Friday, went 4-for-4 and drove in two in an 8-5 victory on Saturday and was 2-for-3 with a grand slam on Sunday. He added a double in a loss to Rutgers.

CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Connor Marshburn, UNCW – Jr., RHP – Cary, N.C.
Marshburn allowed just two hits over 6.0 shutout innings and struck out seven to help UNCW earn a 2-1 victory at Charleston last Friday. The right-hander held the Cougars to a pair of singles and didn’t allow a runner to advance past second base. His seven strikeouts were one off a season high and he issued only one walk.

CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Jett Humphreys, William & Mary – Fr., IF/P – Abingdon, Va.
Humphreys went 2-0 on the mound and batted .500 (4-8) at the plate in William & Mary’s three-game sweep of North Carolina A&T. The freshman pitched in all three games, giving up one hit over 2.2 scoreless innings and fanning five while earning a pair of wins. He was also 2-for-4 on both Saturday and Sunday, contributing a double and three RBI’s.

CONFERENCE NOTES

HUMPS ON A ROLL
Campbell is coming off a sensational 5-0 week that included non-conference victories over ACC foe Duke (13-3) and #16 Coastal Carolina (4-3) followed by a three-game CAA road sweep at Towson. The Camels’ offense has scored 10 or more runs in six of their last eight games while the pitching staff has given up four or fewer runs five times in that stretch.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
The CAA has three of the top nine teams in the nation in stolen bases - Northeastern is 3rd (88), William & Mary is 4th (76) and Campbell is 9th (69).

UNCW ranks 17th in Division I in ERA (3.42), 11th in hits allowed per 9 IP (6.85), 10th in WHIP (1.14) and 17th in K/BB ratio (3.05).

EARLY CONFERENCE LEADERS
With three weeks of conference play in the books, Monmouth and Northeastern are tied atop the North Division at 7-2. The Hawks and Huskies have both won their first three league series.

Campbell moved atop the South Division at 8-1 following its sweep at Towson last weekend, while UNCW is close behind at 5-1 after winning 2-of-3 at Charleston.

LOOKING AHEAD
CAA teams will face three ACC opponents on Tuesday. Northeastern hosts Boston College, Campbell visits #14 NC State and Elon makes the short trip to Wake Forest.

CAMPBELL CAMELS (14-9; 8-1 CAA)

• The Camels are on a season-best five-game win streak after beating Duke, #16 Coastal Carolina and sweeping Towson last week.

• Jonah Oster hit for the cycle in Sunday’s win at Towson, becoming the first CU player to do it since 1999. He batted .615 (8-13) vs. the Tigers with two homers and seven RBI’s.

• Jett Music homered four times and drove in nine in three games at Towson.

• Carlos Lugo extended his hitting streak to nine games last week.

• Beau Brailey picked up two wins in relief last week, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings with just four hits allowed.

CHARLESTON COUGARS (10-13; 5-4 CAA)

• The Cougars closed a 1-3 week with a 6-3 victory over UNCW. 

• Dylan Johnson was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI’s and Jake Amman homered in the win. It was the 8th multi-hit game of the year for Johnson, who is hitting .325.
 
• Amman extended his hitting streak to seven games and is batting a team-best .355 for the season.
 
• Carter Harrington held UNCW to two runs over 7.0 innings and struck out six on Friday. He owns a 1.71 ERA.

• A Patriots Point-record crowd of 1,680 was on hand to watch the Cougars battle Clemson last Tuesday.

ELON PHOENIX (10-13; 3-6 CAA)

• The Phoenix went 1-3 on the road last week, falling 4-3 at East Carolina before dropping 2-of-3 at Northeastern.

• Elon beat NU, 3-2, on Saturday behind another strong start from lefty Owen Winebarger, who held the Huskies to two runs on five hits over a career-long 8.0 innings, ending the Huskies’ 18-game CAA home winning streak.

• Jackson Alford recorded a pair of multi-hit games last week and has eight for the year. He’s batting a team-best .338.

• R.J. Latkowski recorded his CAA-best sixth save on Saturday and dropped his ERA to 0.73 in 11 appearances.

HOFSTRA PRIDE (6-12; 2-4 CAA)

• The Pride put together a 3-2 week, defeating New Haven and Fairfield before going 1-2 at Seton Hall.

• Tyler Cox had a huge week offensively, batting .500 (7-14) with three doubles, a triple, a homer and 11 RBI’s. He drove in 3+ runs in three of his four games.

• Hofstra set a season-high for runs in a 16-8 win at Seton Hall on Saturday. Tyler Castrataro was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI’s in the game, while Cox and CJ Griggs each knocked in three.

• Tanner Sanderoff recorded a win and a save last week, while Brayden Gregg threw 5.1 scoreless innings in two relief outings last week.

MONMOUTH HAWKS (10-10; 7-2 CAA)

• The Hawks split four games last week, but won their CAA series over Stony Brook to stay tied for 1st in the North.

• Nick Lovarco batted .818 (9-11) in the SBU series with thee homers, five runs scored and eight RBI’s. He had an incredible .857 on base percentage and 1.636 slugging percentage vs. SBU.

• Simmi Whitehill doubled on Sunday to extend his on base streak to 20 games.

• Ryan Mealy held SBU to two runs over 5.2 innings with 7 K’s on Friday and Kevin Opanel allowed one hit over the final 3.1 frames to earn his 2nd save.

NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES (4-18; 2-7 CAA)

• The Aggies suffered three losses by a total of six runs at William & Mary, including a pair of one-run setbacks.

• Andrew Tinsley belted a 3-run homer in the 8th to give A&T a 10-9 lead on Sunday. 

• Nick DeCarlo extended his hitting streak to 12 games last week and is batting a team-best .376.

• Savoi Edwards contributed four hits and four RBI’s in the series vs. the Tribe and increased his hitting streak to eight games.

• Angel Ortiz allowed just one hit and one earned run in 4.0 innings on Sunday.

UNCW SEAHAWKS (16-8; 5-1 CAA)

• The Seahawks rebounded from a loss to #10 NC State by taking 2-of-3 at CAA foe Charleston.

• UNCW has a 2.33 team ERA in CAA play after limiting CofC to one run in each of the two wins. Connor Marshburn fired 6.0 shutout innings on Friday. On Saturday, Cooper Allen (4-0) gave up one run in 5.0 innings and freshman Trey Williford finished with 3.1 scoreless frames.

• Mason Hughes was 6-for-11 in the CofC series to raise his average to .439, which leads the conference.

• Kevin Jones tallied four hits in the two wins and is batting .352 for the season.

NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (12-9; 7-2 CAA)

• The Huskies had a 3-2 week and remained tied atop the North Division after winning 2-of-3 from Elon. It was NU’s 13th straight CAA series win.

• Harrison Feinberg had a big week at the plate, batting .471 (8-17) with two doubles, two homers and seven RBI’s. He added nine runs scored and five SB’s.

• Carmelo Musacchia homered twice and drove in seven in the Elon series.

• Luc Rising limited Elon to three hits and didn’t allow an earned run over 7.0 innings on Saturday while fanning six.

• NU stole 11 bases against Brown.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (4-16; 3-6 CAA)

• The Seawolves lost 2-of-3 in their CAA series at Monmouth, but picked up a 10-7 victory in Sunday’s finale.

• Mike Villani went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI’s in the win and was 5-for-12 and drove in five in the series.

• Chris Carson batted .500 (7-14) from the leadoff spot vs. Monmouth, including going 4-for-5 with two runs on Sunday.

• John Rizzo picked up the win on Sunday after holding Monmouth to two runs over the final 4.0 innings. He’s allowed only three runs in 10.1 innings during his last four appearances.

TOWSON TIGERS (7-13; 0-9 CAA)

• The Tigers topped Maryland-Eastern Shore, 8-3, but were swept in their CAA series with Campbell.

• Powered by a 3-run homer from Keldrin Rodriguez, Towson jumped out to a 6-0 lead vs. CU on Sunday but couldn’t hold on. Rodriguez had six hits for the week.

• Josh Janove went 2-for-3 and drove in three in the UMES win and finished the week with five hits and five RBI’s.

• Ryder Jeske gave up just one run over 4.0 innings in two relief outings last week and struck out five over 3.0 innings against Campbell on Sunday.

WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (10-12; 3-3 CAA)

• The Tribe had a 3-1 week that included a sweep of North Carolina A&T to even their CAA record at 3-3.

• Jamie Laskofski batted .412 (7-17) for the week with a double, five runs and two RBI’s. He was also 8-for-9 in SB’s, including a record-tying four on Sunday..

• Trey Christman was 7-for-12 and scored five times in the A&T series. His walk-off RBI single and a solo homer from Kevin Francella gave W&M an 11-10 win on Sunday.

• Charlie Richwine threw 3.0 shutout innings of relief and fanned four to get the win over A&T on Friday.
