Kayleigh Bender and the Seawolves’
Mirabella Altebrando secured Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Offensive Player of the Week
Kayleigh Bender, Hofstra
Sophomore | Attacker | Huntington Station, N.Y.
Bender put forth a tremendous week for the Pride in their two games, totaling a team-high 10 goals and adding a ground ball. The Huntington Station, N.Y., native got her week started with three goals and a ground ball against Princeton on Wednesday. Bender followed that up with an incredible performance in the win over Campbell on Sunday, pouring in a career-high seven goals on just nine shots to lead the Pride to a crucial 13-11 road win over the Camels. The two hat tricks give Bender four this season and 10 in her career. Sunday was also the third time this season and sixth time in her career that she has tallied five or more points in a game.
Defensive Player of the Week
Hailey Huebner, Stony Brook
Sophomore | Defender | Bethesda, Md.
Huebner continued her defensive dominance, causing seven turnovers in a 2-0 week for Stony Brook. The Bethesda, Md., native forced four of her seven miscues during the week in a 12-7 road win at Drexel. She added nine ground balls across the two games, including a team-best six ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers in the win at Villanova. Huebner was crucial in helping the Seawolves allow just 8.5 goals per game last week.
Rookie of the Week
Mirabella Altebrando, Stony Brook
Freshman | Attacker | Miller Place, N.Y.
Altebrando amassed 14 points on two goals and 12 assists in a two-win week for Stony Brook. The Long Island native put together an eight-point performance in a road win at Villanova to start the week, handing out six assists and adding a pair of goals. Altebrando followed that up with six helpers in a 12-7 victory at Drexel to help Stony Brook remain perfect in conference play as a member of the CAA.
