RICHMOND, Va. – Campbell’s
Charlie Montgomery and Katelyn Hubley snagged CAA Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, while Monmouth’s
Carah Sumpter earned a solo Rookie of the Week nod on Monday.
Player of the Week
Charlie Montgomery, Campbell
Senior | OF | Lumber Bridge, N.C.
Montgomery helped Campbell in a midweek matchup against UNCG and a CAA series sweep of Hampton. In four games, the senior outfielder slashed .727/.692/.909 overall with an 8-for-11 showing at the dish. Montgomery drove in two RBIs and scored four times, while collecting two hits and at least one run in all three conference matchups. During her final home series, the Lumber Bridge, N.C., native went 7-for-9 against Hampton, posting multi-hit performances in each game and scoring at least one run in all three. The center fielder played a key role in Campbell outscoring its opponents, 34-10, over the four-game stretch.
Pitcher of the Week
Katelyn Hubley, Campbell
Freshman | P | Henrico, Va.
Hubley continued to excel in the circle, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the series against Hampton. She allowed just five hits and one walk over 8.2 scoreless innings. Hubley opened the series with 3.2 strong innings, striking out three and allowing one hit. The freshman followed with a complete-game, five-inning shutout in the finale, striking out seven without issuing a walk in an 8-0 victory. On the week, Hubley held opponents to a .167 batting average and posted a 0.69 WHIP.
Rookie of the Week
Carah Sumpter, Monmouth
Freshman | P | Harrington, Del.
Picking up her second straight Rookie of the Week honor, Sumpter had another outstanding weekend on both sides of the ball. She helped guide Monmouth to a 2-1 weekend and a series win over N.C. A&T. The freshman hurler picked up two wins in the circle, while averaging a 3.00 ERA and striking out nine batters over 13.0 innings of work. Offensively, the Harrington, Del., product rattled off back-to-back two-hit, two-RBI performances in both wins. Of her four hits, Sumpter belted a double and a triple to help Monmouth secure its first 20-win season since 2021 and tie its most CAA wins with 10.
