CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - MAY 4
RICHMOND, Va. (May 4, 2026) – Campbell senior infielder Joey Morton was selected as the CAA baseball Player of the Week, while Charleston junior Carson Bryant received CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. Campbell freshman outfielder Carlos Lugo repeated as the CAA Rookie of the Week.
CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Joey Morton, Campbell – Sr., IF – Oxford, Pa.
Morton batted .467 (7-15) with a double, four homers, five runs and nine RBI’s in Campbell’s 4-0 week. In the Camels’ three-game sweep of N.C. A&T, the senior was 6-for-11, homered in all three games and drove in nine, including multiple hits and multiple RBI’s in each contest. Morton tops the CAA with 15 homers and 55 RBI’s.
CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Carson Bryant, Charleston – Jr., RHP – Perry, Ga.
Bryant limited UNCW to one hit over 7.0 scoreless innings and struck out seven as Charleston defeated the Seahawks, 5-0, on Sunday to clinch the series. The right-hander allowed only a fourth-inning single while setting career highs for innings pitched and strikeouts. Bryant (2-3) had only inning with multiple runners on base.
CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Carlos Lugo, Campbell – Fr., OF/P – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Lugo batted .471 (8-17) with three doubles, a triple, five runs and four RBI’s in Campbell’s 4-0 week. The freshman had multiple hits in three games and scored in all four. In a CAA series sweep of N.C. A&T, he hit .500 with three extra-base hits while driving in three. Lugo, who is riding a 12-game hitting streak, also threw a scoreless inning of relief.

CONFERENCE NOTES
CAMPBELL CLINCHES THE SOUTH
Campbell clinched the top spot in the South Division following a three-game sweep of North Carolina A&T. The Camels, who are riding an eight-game overall winning streak, have swept six of their nine CAA series and have won six straight in league play. Campbell has earned a first-round bye in the CAA Baseball Championship.
NU TAKES OVER FIRST IN THE NORTH
Northeastern took over sole possession of first place in the North by winning 2-of-3 from Monmouth over the weekend. The Huskies rallied from a six-run deficit to grab the opener, 13-10, before picking up a 10-1 victory on Saturday. Monmouth won 5-4 on Sunday to pull back within a game of the top spot with six games to play.
ELON’S KENNEDY REACHES 900 WINS
Elon’s Mike Kennedy became just the 33rd coach in the history of college baseball to record 900 wins at just one school when the Phoenix beat William & Mary, 5-2, last Saturday. Elon added another victory on Sunday to win their third straight CAA road series.

COASTAL OVER COASTAL
Four UNCW pitchers combined on a 1-hitter as the Seahawks knocked off #9 Coastal Carolina, 2-1, on April 21. UNCW was the third different CAA team to defeat the nationally ranked Chants this season, joining Charleston and Campbell. It was the sixth win over a nationally ranked foe for the CAA in 2026.
STOLEN BASE LEADERS
The CAA has four of the top 23 teams in the nation in stolen bases - Northeastern is No. 1 in Division I (181), William & Mary is 5th (133), Campbell is 15th (118) and Stony Brook is 23rd (112).
CAMPBELL CAMELS (33-14; 23-4 CAA)
• The Camels posted their second straight 4-0 week, capped by a CAA sweep of N.C. A&T to clinch the South Division.
• Campbell belted 7 homers vs. A&T, with four coming from Joey Morton and two from Jett Music. Morton tops the CAA with 15 HR’s and Music is 3rd with 13.
• David Rossow improved to 9-1 after throwing 6.2 shutout innings vs. A&T with six strikeouts. The nine wins are tied for fourth nationally.
• Carlos Lugo is on a 12-game hitting streak after .471 last week. He tops the conference with 68 hits.
• Jonah Oster scored four runs and drove in six in the A&T series. His 47 RBI’s are tied for third in the CAA.
CHARLESTON COUGARS (22-24; 12-12 CAA)
• The Cougars won 2-of-3 at UNCW for their third series victory in the past four weekends.
• CofC got excellent pitching as Carter Bryant and Parker Sweeney combined on a 2-hit shutout with 12 K’s on Sunday and freshman Carter Harrington and Alex Lyon allowed only five hits during a 6-2 victory on Friday.
• Ethan Plyler batted .500 (6-12) in the UNCW series with four runs scored. He’s tallied multiple hits in four of his last five games.
• Alex Lyon tied Carter Love’s program record by making his 95th career pitching appearance at UNCW on Friday. He’s 3-1 with two saves and a 3.16 ERA this season.
ELON PHOENIX (19-27; 10-17 CAA)
• The Phoenix closed the road portion of their schedule by winning 2-of-3 at William & Mary. Elon captured its final three CAA road series.
• Jared Hall batted .462 (6-13) vs. W&M with two triples, a homer and seven RBI’s. He contributed a 2-run homer and a 2-run triple in Sunday’s 7-5 victory.
• Tommy Mitchell earned his first win of the year after holding W&M to one run over 6.0 innings and striking out seven on Saturday. He’s given up three earned runs in his last 19.0 IP over three starts.
• Brian DuRoff scored three runs and drove in five at W&M. He’s batting a team-best .321 for the year.
HOFSTRA PRIDE (17-24; 11-13 CAA)
• The Pride posted a series win at Towson to cap a 2-2 week.
• CJ Griggs batted .462 (6-13) for the week with two doubles, a triple, two homers and five RBI’s. He was 4-for-5 and drove in four as the Pride won the opener at Towson, 12-1.
• Nick Reese threw 5.0 shutout innings and gave up three hits in an 8-0 win over TU on Sunday. He’s allowed only two earned runs over his past 15 innings in three outings to up his record to 4-2.
• Hofstra batted .366 as a team and scored 35 runs over 4 games last week.
• Nick Gallello and Tyler Cox each hit .500 last week, while Michael Brown batted .467.
MONMOUTH HAWKS (25-19, 16-8 CAA)
• The Hawks lost 2-of-3 to Northeastern, but won 5-4 on Sunday to pull within a game of first place in the North Division.
• Wyatt Hunt drove in nine runs in the NU series and batted .545. He was 3-for-5 with a career-high 5 RBI’s on Friday and belted a grand slam in Sunday’s win.
• The Hawks got a strong start from Brendan Kenneally on Sunday as he held NU to two runs over 7.0 innings to improve his record to 4-2.
• RJ Mustaro batted .444 and had a hit in all three games of the NU series.
• MU reached the 25-win mark for the 18th time under coach Dean Ehehalt.
N.C. A&T AGGIES (12-34; 3-21 CAA)
• The Aggies went 1-3 on the road last week, beating Winthrop (9-3) before getting swept at Campbell.
• Luis Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI’s in the Winthrop win. He’s batting .304.
• Andrew Tinsley smacked his team-leading sixth homer at Campbell on Sunday. His 28 RBI’s are second for the Aggies.
• Bruce Wyche has recorded a hit in nine of his past 10 games and is batting a team-best .329 with 34 RBI’s.
• Jacob Fields struck out a season-high five batters in only 3.1 innings during his start at Winthrop.
UNCW SEAHAWKS (26-20; 14-10 CAA)
• The Seahawks dropped 2-of-3 to Charleston, getting a 7-5 win on Saturday.
• Trey Williford moved to 6-1 after limiting CofC to one earned run on four hits over 6.2 innings on Saturday. He recorded 11 strikeouts, which were the most ever for a UNCW freshman.
• Trevor Lucas was 3-for-4 with a double, homer and four RBI’s in the win. He leads the Seahawks with 42 RBI’s.
• Bromley Thornton came out of the pen on Friday vs. CofC and didn’t allow a hit in 3.0 innings of work.
• Jake Bechtel is tied for the team lead with 8 homers after a blast on Friday.
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (28-18; 17-7 CAA)
• The Huskies took 2-of-3 from Monmouth to regain sole possession of 1st place in the North to cap a 3-1 week.
• Tyler Harmony continued to roll, batting .389 with three runs and three RBI’s last week while extending his hitting streak to 12 games. He’s hitting .429 for the year.
• Luc Rising held MU to three hits over 6.0 innings while tying his career-high with 10 strikeouts on Saturday. Rising (4-4) has 19 K’s over his last two starts and lowered his ERA to 2.95.
• Harrison Feinberg drove in five runs in the Monmouth series and stole his league-leading 38th base, breaking the NU single-season record.
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (19-25; 12-12 CAA)
• The Seawolves went 3-1 last week, including a pair of weekend wins over UMass Lowell.
• Chanz Doughty doubled twice and drove in six vs. UML on Saturday. He had 9 RBI’s for the week.
• Nick Zampieron extended his hitting streak to 14 games after three multi-hit games last week. He’s batting .353.
• Nicholas Dromboski was 7-for-13 with 7 runs over the final 3 games last week.
• Micah Worley threw 5.0 shutout innings vs. UML on Saturday. It was the third time in the past four starts that he hasn’t allowed a run, dropping his ERA to 2.26.
TOWSON TIGERS (18-27; 6-18 CAA)
• The Tigers split four games, blanking George Washington (12-0) and earning a 6-5 win over Hofstra on Saturday.
• Keldrin Rodriguez had a pair of multi-hit games last week but saw his 8-game hitting streak end on Sunday. He’s still batting .301 with a team-high 31 RBI’s.
• Aden Knowles limited Hofstra to two runs on four hits over 6.2 innings to earn the win on Saturday.
• Yariel Rodriguez batted .455 and drove in four last week.
• Vincent Salvo (3-0) was one of five pitchers to combine on a 3-hit shutout vs. GW.
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (20-25; 11-13 CAA)
• The Tribe dropped 2-of-3 to Elon in their CAA series last weekend.
• Jamie Laskofski was 4-for-6 and blasted a walkoff homer in the 12th as W&M beat Elon, 5-4, on Friday. It was the first walkoff HR for W&M since 2022.
• Louie Bartletti batted .545 in the series and extended his on base streak to 17 games. He’s hitting .474 in the stretch.
• Charlie Richwine went a career-long 4.1 innings and gave up just one hit with four strikeouts in Friday’s win.
• Chase Ecker is a perfect 25-for-25 on stolen bases this season.
