Saar van der Boom garnered CAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week recognition, respectively, while Towson goalkeeper
Teagan Gardner secured Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Lavrich, Monmouth
Junior | Forward | Birdsboro, Pa.
Lavrich scored three goals and tallied an assist in two games last week. The junior forward rattled off a five-point effort in the team’s 3-0 victory over Army on Thursday. She buried a one-touch shot into the back of the net off a cross from Saar van der Boom in the 30th minute before converting from the penalty spot early in the second half. She picked up the secondary assist on Maddie DeMaio's late goal to help put the game out of reach. Lavrich provided the equalizer from the PK dot with 37 seconds to play, guiding the Hawks to a 2-2 draw against FDU on Sunday. The Birdsboro, Pa., native became the first Monmouth player to net a game-tying goal in the final minute of play since Kim Clemmer against Navy in 2011.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Teagan Gardner, Towson
Redshirt Junior | Goalkeeper | Leesburg, Va.
Gardner produced her second clean sheet of the season against unbeaten Delaware (2-0-3). The redshirt junior notched six saves against the former conference foe, becoming the first team to log a shutout against the Blue Hens this season. The keeper out of Leesburg, Va., stood on her head with four of her six stops coming on the doorstep. Gardner also weathered Delaware’s offensive onslaught early in the second half with three saves in a span of 11 minutes.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Saar van der Boom, Monmouth
Freshman | Defender | Rotterdam, Netherlands
Van der Boom picked up the first three points of her collegiate career this weekend. The Rotterdam, Netherlands product notched her first assist on Ashley Lavrich's go-ahead goal in the first half, crossing a ball into the box off her left foot. She followed up with a rip from the top of the 18-yard box, tucking her first career goal into the right-side netting to break a 0-0 deadlock against FDU in the 65th minute.
