RICHMOND, Va. (September 8, 2026) – The opening of the 2026 cross country season featured a number of outstanding performances. Elon senior Abby Beville and Hampton junior Peninah Mutisya shared CAA Women’s Runner of the Week accolades, while William & Mary senior Hayes Trapp received CAA Men’s Runner of the Week honors.
 
WOMEN’S CO-RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Abby Beville, Elon
Senior | Hamilton, Mass.
Beville claimed the individual title at the Elon Opener for the second year in a row, posting a time of 13.59.4 over the 4K course. The senior led wire-to-wire against a 146-runner field and helped the Phoenix earn the team championship in the event for the third straight season.
 
WOMEN’S CO-RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Peninah Mutisya, Hampton
Junior | Kenya
Competing in her first cross country event since the end of the 2024 season, Mutisya took first place at the Spider Alumni Open, covering the 4K course in a time of 13:55.4. In a field of 146 runners, the sophomore earned her third career individual championship by five seconds over the second-place finisher.
 
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Hayes Trapp, William & Mary
Senior | Aiken, S.C.
Trapp finished second in a field of 136 runners to help lead William & Mary to the team championship at the Spider Alumni Open, completing the 6K event in a personal-best time of 18:19.0. In the first event for new coach Adam Smith, the Tribe captured the event for the first time since 2019, edging Georgetown by one point.

OTHER NOTABLE WOMEN’S PERFORMANCES: The Elon women’s team took the top four spots in the Elon opener, with Beville followed by Brynne Gordon (14:02), Hannah Weber (14:12) and Millie Gold (14:21)…Campbell placed fourth in the event as Emily Pierce (14:27) placed sixth and Delaney Horton (14:34) was seventh…North Carolina A&T’s Deavion Deleon placed a team-best 18^th (14:56) at the Elon Opener….UNCW’s Elizabeth Dokulil turned her best collegiate time ever (15:21) at the Elon Opener…Towson sophomore Anna Amato captured in the individual title at Mount St. Mary’s 5K Duals with a personal-best time of 18:54.50 as the Tigers placed second as a team…William & Mary won the team title at the Spider Alumni Open for the first time since 2016. Molly Weithman led five Tribe runners in the top 20 with a second-place effort (14:00.4) and Abby Lane was eighth (14:36)…Charleston sophomore Sofia Day placed third at the CSU Buccaneer Opener with a 5K time of 18:10.8 in her first CofC race as the Cougars placed second as a team…Monmouth junior Krissy Sarnicola finished second at the Panther Invite, completing the 6K course in 21:29 as the Hawks placed second as a team…Stony Brook’s Shaylen Goslar was fifth at the Stony Brook Season Opener with a time of 14:37…Northeastern grad student Molly Latincsics placed eighth (14:27) at the Friar Invitational.
 
OTHER NOTABLE MEN’S PERFORMANCES: Stony Brook senior Henry Gartner won the individual title at the Stony Brook Season Opener with a time of 19:21 to help the Seawolves capture the team championship…Trapp was joined by two teammates in the top eight at the Spider Alumni Open with Alex Jordan placing fifth (18:29) and Eli Phillips taking eighth (18:37)…Hampton’s Khalid Hamid finished in a team-best time of 20:31 at the event…At the Elon Opener, UNCW senior Griffin Wald placed fourth overall with a time of 19:19, while Elon’s Evan Taylor finished 10^th (19:30) and teammate Luke Chisum was 11^th (19:30). Craig Costa (20:29) was Campbell’s top performer in the race and Demonte Peterson (21:17) was North Carolina A&T’s top finisher…Charleston’s Adrian Miller turned in personal-best time of 19:20 at the CSU Buccaneer Open to place fourth individually as the Cougars had a second-place team finish…Monmouth’s Michael Card helped lead the Hawks to a fourth-place finish at the Panther Invite with a time of 26:27…Ryan Sarney had a team-best eighth-place finish (18:24) for Northeastern at the Friar Invitational.
