CAA Weekend Preview - April 15, 2022

RICHMOND, Va. (April 15, 2022) – Spring championships are underway in the Colonial Athletic Association, while some teams prepare for theirs with final tune-ups for tournament play and postseason races intensify in other sports.
 
Golf: The CAA Women’s Golf Championship is underway Friday at the Reserve Club at St. James in Southport, North Carolina. For a full preview, click HERE.
 
The final week of men’s regular-season competition sees Delaware and William & Mary play in Villanova’s tournament in Pennsylvania and Drexel and Hofstra visit New Haven for an event at Yale, while James Madison will trek to Iowa for the Hawkeye Invitational.
 
Baseball: The top two teams in the CAA baseball standings go head-to-head this weekend at Patriots Point as Charleston entertains William & Mary in a battle of teams at 7-2 in league play. The Cougars are 17-4 at home but face a Tribe squad that comes in having won 12 of its past 15 games. Delaware, which has won nine of its last 10, heads to Hofstra. UNCW hosts Towson and Northeastern visits James Madison. Elon has a three-game home series against in-state foe UNC Asheville.  Weekend Schedule
 
Men’s Lacrosse: Four of six CAA men’s lacrosse contests have been decided by just one goal, while the largest margin of victory in conference play thus far has been three. A tight race is shaping up, and more entertaining lacrosse is on the way. Towson emerged as the final unbeaten team in CAA play, following a 2-0 start. The Tigers will look to remain perfect in conference play on Saturday (12 p.m., FloLive), visiting a hungry Delaware squad in search of its first conference win this spring. The second matchup of the day features a rematch of last season's CAA Championship game as Hofstra will host Drexel at 3 p.m. on Lax Sports Network. The final game of the weekend will be a battle of contrasting styles as UMass, the CAA’s top scoring defense, will host the league’s top scoring offense in Fairfield (3:30 p.m., ESPN+). | Weekend Schedule 
 
Women’s Lacrosse: A convincing midweek win by Drexel improved the Dragons to 3-1 in conference play as the race for CAA Championship qualification and seeding heats up. Towson and Hofstra meet on Long Island in a key matchup (12 p.m., FloLive) with Towson a half-game back of Drexel and in possession of the head-to-head tiebreaker. Delaware and Elon will battle at Rudd Field (11 a.m., FloLive) in a showdown with potential Championship ramifications and No. 11 James Madison looks for its eighth-straight victory when the Dukes visit William & Mary with the Tribe aiming for a CAA victory (1 p.m., FloLive) | Weekend Schedule 
 
Softball: Status quo in CAA softball with four weekend series as we approach the halfway point of conference play. Hofstra and UNCW sit second and third in the conference standings after winning their first three CAA series this spring. The Pride will host the Seahawks this weekend in a key matchup for positioning in the conference standings. Delaware has won seven straight conference games, including two consecutive series sweeps, after starting the year 0-2. The Blue Hens are in first place in the CAA and will look to keep their hot streak going when they visit Towson over the weekend. Fresh off its first CAA series victory, Elon will play host to Drexel, while JMU and Charleston are looking to get back on track as the Cougars and Dukes square off in the Lowcountry. | Weekend Schedule  
 
Tennis: It’s the final weekend of regular-season play in men’s tennis and there are a pair of conference matchups on the slate as Drexel visits Delaware on Friday and then hosts Hofstra on Saturday. William & Mary faces #64 Old Dominion, UNCW welcomes South Carolina State, Hofstra is at home against NJIT and James Madison hits the road for matches against Morgan State and Penn State.  The women’s tennis schedule also includes some key conference contests as Drexel visits Delaware and hosts Hofstra, and Charleston entertains UNCW. James Madison challenges #34 Old Dominion, Elon meets in-state foe East Carolina, William & Mary welcomes Richmond, Hofstra is at home against NJIT and Towson takes on Delaware State and Bucknell.
 
Track & Field: Seven CAA track and field programs will compete at seven different competitions this weekend. Delaware will be at the Larry Ellis Invite, hosted by Princeton, Elon travels to the Meet of Champions at High Point University, Hofstra and JMU will host home invitationals, UNCW heads to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational, Northeastern will participate in the Northeast Challenge at UConn and Towson is on the road at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell. 
 
Rowing: Five CAA rowing crews will be in action this weekend, with three going head-to-head. Eastern Michigan, UConn and Villanova will be hosted by Bucknell as the four teams compete on the Susquehanna River. Additionally, Drexel and Northeastern will stay local as the Dragons compete in the Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River and the Huskies go head-to-head with Boston University and Rhode Island on the Charles River.
