Our CAA Football Countdown To Kickoff moves on with a look at the defending conference champion, Rhode Island. The Rams set a program record for wins in 2024, finishing 11-3 overall (7-1 CAA), while advancing to the second round of the FCS playoffs. URI is ranked in the top 10 nationally in most preseason polls entering 2025.
The Rams have plenty of talent back offensively with quarterback Devin Farrell (1,670 pass yards, 11 TD's) and receivers Marquis Buchanan (82 rec., 1,124 yds., 8 TD's) and Greg Gaines III (50 rec., 603 yds., 3 TD's). Most of the offensive line is also back, including All-American Brock Bethea.
URI's defense features All-America linebacker A.J. Pena (82 tackles, 22.5 TFL, 12.5 TFL), the preseason CAA Defensive Player of the Year, and defensive back Ayinde Johnson (56 tackles).
